Went back into the steamy woods today on a hunt for relics. Not many targets but the results included all the types I was looking for: 2 flat buttons (one is tombac), an 1896 IHC (I think), a toasted Georgian copper weighing 8.6g, a roundball, and the best find being a bridle rosette. The rosette is 2 and a quarter inches in diameter and weighs 75.4g. If you know rosettes would you venture an approximate date for this one? Thanks!

Thanks Randy. Think this is my first intact rosette.

Wow! While I know absolutely nothing about these historic items, I can certainly appreciate their age and significance--the fact that they were once a part of a family's everyday life. I am glad that you found some things that you were looking for. Meanwhile, I am going off to look up "rosette." Thanks for sharing your finds with us.

Didn't hear about bridle rosettes until I started watching metal detecting videos. a common adornement to a horse's bridle. The one I found dates approximately mid-1800s.

Thanks vpnavy! The walk in I saw no one. Once in I spoke with three hikers and two cyclists, so even on a warm, humid August day, a goodly number for a more remote location.

Man that's a beauty.....very nice, congrats!! Took me a long time to figure out what I had the first time I found one.

Nice finds. Those woods are really paying off for you.

Can't help you with a date but very nice finds. What kind of soil did you find these in. They have interesting patina.

Nice rosette. I agree on the mid 1800s date.

Thanks Steve. Homesite was eatblished in the 1830s. Close to the rosette I found a Georgian era copper and an iron chain with a 'T' handle.

Thanks tahomatom. Soil ground-balanced high on the Equinox 600. Ground is probably on the acidic side and is rocky.

Cool finds McDig

I have never dug a Brass Rosette , but did find 2-4 Iron types , I'm 85% sure they are rosette's , they were found in a US camp.

Wow! Is right. That Rosette is in beautiful condition. That will look very nice with your collection. Nice work saving it and sharing the story and pics.

Thanks RVRoamer66. My last find of that hunt was a .50 cal roundball, pretty much making it a complete hunt for me.
