? Gold dollars
? Gold quarter eagles

? gold double eagles
? silver 3-cent pieces
? silver 5 cent pieces
? silver half dimes
? silver dimes
? silver 20 cent pieces
? silver quarters
? silver halves

All coins are from 1793 until 1970. Remember that I am not including proof, commemorative or privately minted coins. I am only using a base of one percent for lost and hidden (i.e. Cached). This one percent may be a low number as it could be as high as five to seven percent or higher of the overall lost or hidden coins as opposed to the mintage of all of these coins. I write this to inspire you as a treasure hunter/metal detectorist to get out there and look because these coins are out there waiting to be found. Grand Totals Total mintage 19,629,156,942 196,310,571 1% Lost/Hidden
As you can see, there are plenty of silver and gold coins to be found. For this is one percent. I think that the number is higher for lost and hidden silver and gold coins. If you add in copper and nickel and zinc coins and privately minted and commemorative coins, the possibilities multiply even more. People lose and hide coins and they are out there just waiting for someone to come along and collect them. I hope this report helps fuel your desire to continue hunting or even begin a new quest. It may also help answer some questions as to why you find some coins more than others. Happy Hunting!
