A rant about treasure legends

Hi Tom ... a few posers for ya:

1) If treasure legends bother you, why not just ignore them?

2) If theories about finding treasures bother you, why not just ignore them?

3) If someone wants to spend their time pursuing what they believe to be true, why does it bother you? (Think: "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," etc.)

4) Do you really think that if anyone reads your rant it will dissuade them from pursuing a treasure?

5) Theoretically, if (after reading your rant) I stop following the leads I have for a specific treasure, then read about another member here finding it using the same leads --- could YOU be legally liable for causing me to stop looking and missing out on a huge score?

Be Well

Hi Chadeaux. The answer for your 1st 4 points, is that on a forum such as this, people post their surmisings, their questions, their opinions, etc.... for others to input on. Eg.: What do y'all think of such & such detector ?" Or "what do y'all think of the clues for this treasure I heard about?" or "Does anyone think such & such treasure exists?". In each of those example scenarios, you can see people are fishing for opinion/input . Right ? So that would include dissenters. Eg.: those that think such & such machine lacks ability. Or those with an alternate explanation to supposed clues, etc... None of which precludes/stops that person from A) buying the machine anyhow, B) pursuing the lead/clue anyhow. They are more than welcome to go with a proponent's advice instead, to "pursue happiness". Sure :)

As for your 5th point: The converse could be equally true: That you could save the person time, such that his energies go to more likely scenarios.

... but what if I'm really only happy while I'm out looking for Jean Lafitte's treasures, and your rant makes me sad?:crybaby2:

There will always be those who believe despite the avalanche of evidence to the contrary.

Santa Clause is coming to town!

Ok...

Sit back and pass all rum this direction...

First...

I am a FIRM believer that MOST treasure legends stem from some form of truth(s)...
again MOST.

Second...

I believe that MOST treasure legends / stories have been stretched far from and out of proportion to the point that the original facts are lost.
Again MOST. :P

Third...

Treausre / valuables have always been hidden... buried... or lost...
SO...
To think that "none exist" is a fools thought.

... To think that "none exist" is a fools thought.

Correct. And I have acknowledged caches exist, have been found, etc.... But this does mean: "Therefore: All suggested storied treasures exist" either.

Not most, ALL :) They probably ALL have some kernal of truth, with someone name, or a date, etc.... And so persons will often say something like: "It's just a matter of sorting the fact from fiction". But wait: If there wasn't a treasure there to begin with (if that were one of the non-truths of the story), then NO AMOUNT of the rest of the story being true, will ever bode for a treasure being there. Eh ?

Im with you AARC. Rum coming your way. photo-308.JPG
Hope this isnt against t-net rules.

Hey tom your approach to finding treasure has obviously been a success, so is there any way an old rum pirate could get a glimpse of say, a few more of those golden beauties. Just checked out the 3 banner goldies youve found. Very nice. Wow !!! You sure none of those are related to some old 49er legends. Lol !!

Ok I am back... nothing like a good shower.

Now where were we ?

Ah yes... digging a pit to hell to hide a stack of gold or silver... or ones piggy bank.

Lets see what else now that the eager have left to their neighbors yards with shovel in hand and whatnot.

Uh hum...
Rum again please.

Ahhhh yes... NOW...

When one has something of value they want to hide...
Especially IF large OR really valuable...

This is usually a "rushed" process.

Not many would take the time to dig any major hole to hide it... exposing themselves to the possibility all the while of being discovered in mid scoop or dirt.

Now... maybe later they return and dig up to move to a better or more well thought out spot.
but these things were not the norm.

In days of old... remember...

Dead men tell no tales was the motto ...
And...
This was said by the same who's mantra is "no honor among thieves".

In other words... in days of older ... AND even today... Greed would get one dead in a hurry.

IF you had something someone else wanted... OR needed desperately... remember desperation was and still is rampant in this world...

So...

Ones biggest fear was not "loosing" the treasure... but someone knowing you had it.

You can bet yer sweet arses if someone came along whilst your digging... ANYTHING... and they suspected a great / immense value was at stake...

Someone is not gonna tell. heh

Greed is a terrible thing.

Ok ... enough speculations... lets talk facts... or shall I say... what we "know" as facts...

Like... Several chests have been found in Florida with various valuables... treasures...

One on Sister key... 3 feet down.

And I can go down a list of the many things found...

NONE... more than a mans height in depth... WHICH was a standard for pirates on beaches due to sand shifts.

Prior to banks... all things were either guarded with heavy personnel and elaborate means... OR... they buried.

Pure and simple.
