Was 1965 the last year that silver quarters were minted? Or, was 1965 the first year that clad quarters were minted.....OOORRR did they mint both (split production) in '65?

Ok, that was really three questions, but I just found a '65 quarter, and can't tell. I'd hate to spend the good stuff.

1964 was the last year of silver. Only clad after that, except half dollars were 40% silver from 1965-1970.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll have to dig deeper!

While we are on the subject of silver "mistake" coins, there is the issue of silver dimes. The last of the silver dimes were minted with a date of 1964 but they were in production until 1966. Because they had silver planchets on hand, it was just a matter of time before someone put the wrong planchet in one of the presses. So there are a few silver 1965 dimes. How do you tell? The same as the quarter. Look on the side for the "band" of copper colored metal. It's there on clad; missing on silver.
