The site I've been working for years just outside of my desert ghost town where I live has produced in the older sections lots of so-called Bennington marbles and clays. I figure the 5/8" clays are marbles but what about the whopper clays? Over 1". Could they be a part of antique toilet water-flushing mechanisms or something else having to do with valves of some sort? I dug up another big'un today.

some big spheres were used as valves but games were played with the big marbles,too...so theyre all included...ive seen em up to 3 inches or so....theres lotsa industrial uses for marbles...

Here are three that go over an inch. Not the biggest that I've ever seen just the biggest that I have.I have heard of a couple of plumming apps for these but the salt glaze didn't hold up too well. There are several games that were played with the larger Benningtons and clays but the smaller ones, from what I have gathered, were the most popular until the Germans got theirs(glass handmade) out in the world.
