A purse find from the 1880's

Hunted a wooded area again this afternoon. I was climbing up a hill where I had found some good stuff in the past. The underbrush was very dense, but I could make out an old path up the hill. When I got near a big old tree I got a strange signal which was somewhere between a pull tab and a screw cap. But since it was reading about 5 inches deep, I decided to go for it. The first thing that came out of the ground was the metal frame of an old purse. I went back over the hole hoping that there were some more targets in there. There were. First, up came another piece of the frame. Then came a little button. On one swing I would get a nickel signal. On another swing I would get a silver signal and then Indian Head signals. That's exactly what was in the hole, a Seated Liberty dime, a Shield Nickel and 2 Indian Head Cents.

Here's the purse frame and contents:

The 1877-cc dime:

The Shield Nickel (an 1868, I think):

Really a cool find, neat to see a button in the grouping also, makes it even more personal. :icon_thumright:
