Last month, my hunting buddies and I were in Unionville Nevada. A four (4) day trip where we had a lot of nice finds. I finally got around to going through my "junk" bag and pulled out a crumpled piece of metal I hadn't checkout out to well.

After cleaning it off with some soap and water, it looked gold. It was soft enough to make straight and had some type of design. My friend tested it and its GOLD! It weighs 7.8 grams. It is about five (5) inches in length and has no markings at all.

Now I found this in an area that had been known as China Town back in the 1860's-1870's. We have only found Chinese relics, bottles and coins from this area. NO AMERICAN COINAGE AT ALL. :icon_scratch: (Maybe an opium pipe pick??)

We have no idea what it could be so were looking for anyone on here who might be able to help us out!!! Thank you all for any input.

It does look ancient, so no telling how it ended up in a Chinese mining camp ? Hope you figure it out. I'd sure be hollering Eureka! with that find.

Tamrock... this is the funny thing of "life"...

LEts just shoot in the dark shall we a minute...

Hairpin is from the "ming"... (just for a time period) - (and I would not be surprised one bit if actually from this period)
Hairpin is kept in family and is passed down as many of these types of items were and are still...
Ok... hairpin is received as wedding gift in the family... say in the 1800's...
Family migrates to America...
She wears hairpin and it is lost from her hair...
or is in belongings... and slips out...
OR...
We could continue...

The most interesting things about antiquities and relics to me is...
3 things...
Who... what ... and how.

We only have jeweler in town and I'm hesitant to having them check its purity. Perhaps when I get over to Reno in the next few weeks, I'll take it over and have them check it. Also, would you recommend me sending the photos to a museum expert. I'm sure they are going to want to have it "in hand". I'm not to worried about sending it to them. It's just "them" sending it back to me.......:dontknow:

thanks again for all the responses!!

I can surmise this was transported by an early Chinese emigrant to America who has held it as an heirloom from a land much older then here. I still would like to know the purity of the gold thought. That may or may not be a clue to where it came from and how old it is.

Dunno' exactly know what it is but it's a nice hunk of gold, that's for sure.

Really nice find. Great surprise from your junk pile too. I love it when that happens.
