A piece of German 835 alloy silver

Picked this up at a Goodwill today. It has a melt value of a bit over 7.5 troy ounces of pure silver for less than five bucks. The German maker is a Wilhelm T Binder from what I found on the web.

Good find. It is indeed from Wilhelm Binder, founded July 1868 in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The company was taken over in 1939 when war broke out. Although some sellers refer to ‘Wilhelm T. Binder’, I don’t think that was ever the name. The central ‘T’ is actually a stylised hammer as part of their trademark, although on later pieces it appears more like a letter rather than a symbol.

Okay, I did wonder why the T in the middle was taller and a bit heavier stamped mark. It's a hammer then.

I've always wanted to visit Germany. Wife wants instead to visit Italy. Not sure we'll ever work out either. Disneyland or Walt Disney World is what we've alternate in the last decade. It's Walt Disney World this September.
