Hi all,

I got to hunt for just a little while today since the sun finally came out..I didn't have any game plan, so I went up the street to a couple of houses I detected last year..I hunted them to death but these yards just keep on giving! I found about 30-35 wheats in this one particular yard, but still managed to find 13 more Lincoln Memorials, 4 nickels, 3 dimes, and yet another wheatie in this one little area of gravel next to the back patio I obviously didn't check.

I decided to go back to the front yard and check the side of the house where the yard meets the property of a vacant house next door (I hunted that property last year and found a Franklin half in the back yard). Close to the property line I got a penny/dime signal, similar to how my machine identifies wheat pennies. The target ended up being a 10K gold Southwestern Bell pendant with 3 stones. When I first saw it, I knew it was gold just by the way it looked. From now on I think I'll dig any penny signal when I search these yards..you just never know.

Here's the pics..I took a shot of the pendant and wheat penny together for size comparison.

Congratulations! I think I would be diggin those penny signals too! lol Very pretty little find there!

It's great to get those unique items like that. lol and who doesn't want gold?? Congrats and HH

holey cow Nat, your doing just fantastic.. wtg big time

Interesting finds... Someone should correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't 1/10 10k ussually mean the item has a 1/10th gold plating? In any case, I love the charm. HH

Beautiful gold pendant Nat. Are you branching out now from just rings? ;D
Congrats to you. Are you still making connections on places to hunt with the realtor? That was a great idea.

My guess is the outstanding pendant is one step above "gold filled" which is 1/20th of the karat weight by mass. To make 10K gold fill (according to wikiapedia): Take a sheet of 10K gold then bond to copper sheet and press your item, to be called gold filled, item must contain 1/20th 10K gold by weight. So this item seems to be marked to say it's 1/10th 10K gold by weight. i.e.: MEGA heavy gold plated.

However, even if item were completely 10K, it's intrinsic value FAR outweighs it's metal content. I like the idea of 3-year service pin, the stones are great (probably real amethyst, very nice!) and the history is great!

Hey Natman..

Those are great finds. WTG

I believe it is a 3 year service pendant for an operator & I bet if you could track down all the owners of that house ODDS ARE one was an operator for Ma' Bell....

I thought the 3 stones represented Lily Tomlin's 3 "Ringy Dingys" :D ;D

You're probably right on that Nick, I was thinking it was given by the company for service, but wasn't sure what job it represented.

Hey Doug! Yeah it appears I'm getting my share of pendants, pins and charms as well as rings lately! I still call RE agents but I'm not having as much luck as last year..however I have received permission to search more older yards around here by just talking to people in the neighborhood and getting leads from them.

I didn't pay attention to the 1/10 part, but either way there's gold content so I'm happy!

Thanks for all the great replies.

Nice pendant !!
I worked for GTE and Verizon for 33 years and our service
was one stone for every 5 years so that might be for 15 years
instead of only 3 years.

My Mother received a similar item from another large company and i think that each gem was for either 5 or 10 years of service. And like a previous poster mentioned, I would bet the gemstones are REAL.

Nice find.

Nice find Nat. When I worked at the bank a 5 year award was represented by 3 emeralds. Don't remember where they went from there but I have another one with 2 saphires and a diamond (can't remember if that was 10 or 15 years). They only awarded you every 5 years.

Great find! :) I agree with you on the cent signals and have started digging more of them again...
