Hello all, A friend and I went out today to some old benches along a draw that had been shoveled and ground sluiced many moons ago. We were both using our GB Pro's. As we neared the bottom of the gully Adam went across onto a clear area of bedrock and began to detect. I went right up the gut of the gully. Just about the time I was out of sight Adam hollered that he had found a piece. I went back to see what he had found and what the scenario was. The piece was a small crumb of gold found on the downside of the rough bedrock right in the direction the water would have laid it down.
We both went back to hunting and in about twenty minutes we were both together again upstream a bit. It was pretty nice out by now and the chill was gone. We had some snacks and went to it again. This time it was my turn as I got a very subtle signal in a little dip of bedrock. Adam came over as he likes to watch them come out. I had to break the bedrock up several different times and after scraping away the broken rock and quartz we both saw a small piece of gold in the bottom of the groove. We sat and talked for a while and I put the pack on my back and got everything in order to go about detecting some more. As I started to walk away I looked at Adam and told him now that I got everything back on I would bet money that If I swing over the hole again I would have to take all this stuff off again. Sure enough there was an even louder target this time. I had to break out a few more slivers of rock and I could see a small teardrop shaped piece laying on the bedrock. It turned out to be a .3 pennyweight piece, about four or five times the size of my first piece.
We moved up the wide flat gully and Adam hollered again that he had found another piece a bit larger than his first and that we were now two and two. I left him hunting and I moved on determined to break the tie. I went up the creekbed about a hundred yards and saw a small flat of rough bedrock right in the center. I went over it and got nice little breaker. There was no soil or gravel however. I put the glasses on and saw a tiny piece of gold sunning itself all by its lonesome, probably about a grain or less. Adam had caught up with me by then and I showed him the last piece.
We split up again and we were apart about an hour or so. I went back to spot that I had found a few nuggets several months ago. I could still see my scrape from the last nugget I pulled out of the spot. I made a swing against the large rock about twenty inches from the scrape and got another real subtle signal. This ground is really hot and the signal sounded and acted like a hot rock at first and as I uncovered more of the dirt and clay it got better. I was only down about six inches and ran the coil over the hole again and this time the GB Pro went straight to forty as the ferrous bars disappeared and the screen number went to eight. I took my pick and moved a bit of the red dirt and saw something yellow fall to the bottom of the hole. I picked it up and I had a big cornflake in my hand. Adam was headed towards me and as he sat down I told him I had found a big piece of lead right here, and threw the nugget at him. He was a bit surprised and said yeah, yellow lead. LOL.
We sat for some time at that spot and started to detect again. Within six feet of the last nugget I got another sweet signal and dug out a bit for .3 pennyweight. In about five minutes I got another mellow signal and pulled out a nugget that was .5 pennyweight. That was it for the day and after another hour we headed out. It was another good hunt and we found some gold. The bigger piece came in at 3.3 pennyweight. The last picture is Adam's gold. He told me he had his daughter hold it so the gold would look bigger in her hand.
Thanks all, TRINITYAU/RAYMILLS
