I have just completed assembly of another batch of my hand-made, high-quality carbon-fiber lower rods for the CTX 3030; rods are in stock and ready to sell.

A couple of announcements...


1. PRICING

The introductory pricing on the rods has expired; the new, standard pricing on these rods will be $89 plus shipping. HOWEVER, I will offer a 15% discount to all buyers who mention this ad. With the 15% discount, pricing for the rods for TreasureNet forum members will be $76 plus shipping. I will combine shipping costs for any order of more than one rod.

2. TRAVEL RODS

In addition to standard one-piece rods, am now offering two-piece "travel rods," as a special-order item, to anyone interested. The rods will be exactly the same as a "standard" rod, except that a threaded, stainless-steel connector is used, which will allow the rod to be unscrewed/disassembled into two, roughly 16" pieces. Travel rods will normally sell for $135 plus shipping, but TreasureNet forum members mentioning this ad will receive the same 15% discount as offered on the regular rods. With the 15% discount, pricing for these two-piece rods will be $115 plus shipping.

Finally, I can send a small sample piece of the carbon-fiber tubing used to build the rods, to anyone who is interested. Please contact me, if interested in a sample.

Isn't the CTX lower rod already made of carbon fiber?

Yep, that's what the Minelab rods are made of. I'm just stressing the "carbon fiber" part, so that folks don't assume -- based on the price point -- that I must be using inferior materials. I'm just trying to make sure it's clear that mine are made of same material as the factory rods, but at a more affordable price.

In advertising these rods for sale, I'm trying to target people that have extra coils for their CTX, but don't have a spare rod to go with those coils. The extra rods make swapping out coils a MUCH easier process -- and yet a lot of people have avoided buying extra rods for their accessory coils, due to the high cost that Minelab charges for the rods ($175). My goal was to build a rod of equal or better quality, but at a much cheaper price, so that I could have one for each of my two extra CTX coils. Once I figured out the process, and accomplished the goal, I figured I might as well put the knowledge to use and continue to build them; I thought others might also be interested in spare, high-quality rods, if they could be had at a more affordable price...

Thanks for your interest! While I have been asked multiple times about both (scoop handles, and Equinox rods), at this point I'm only making CTX rods. I will continue to ponder the possibility of other offerings, in the future.

LOL! I hear you, sonofadigger! There are obstacles to overcome in each case-- not the least of which being that I am not a beach hunter. And therefore, sand scoop handles and the types of shafts (for the Equinox) that would be preferred by water hunters are not something I'm intimately familiar with...

I will continue to ponder, and perhaps talk to some beach hunters about exactly what they'd like to see offered (specs-wise)…

Steve.... you really should think about the Noxs. Seems very popular..... might be more of them out there than the CTX soon. Id guess cheaper to make as well. With the other coils coming out....... people will need them so they can put the other coil on a second shaft for quick swap.

I totally agree with you, on the demand for Equinox rods/shafts. I can tell just from the number of people asking me for them, that there's a market. I'd really like to be able to provide folks a rod for the Equinox that they'd really like, at a price that is reasonable. Again though, and please correct me if I'm wrong, it seems like with the Equinox, the way people would like to see a shaft designed varies from person to person to person; someone might want a one-piece, another a two-piece; if two-piece, some might want those "spring clip" connectors, others a screw-in connector; some might want mount holes for the cuff drilled in different locations, etc. etc. etc. These are the types of things that I think about, and it would seem that just making "one type" of Equinox rod would not necessarily please even a majority of EQ users. It would almost seem like I would need to "custom make" each one, for each person's preferences (and I'm too small of an operation to be able to make each one a custom design).

I need someone like you around, as an "advisor!"

Same thing with the sand scoop handles...what does an experienced beach hunter like yourself want in a sand scoop rod? One piece? Two piece? How long? What does the outside diameter of the tube need to be? What type of "hand grip" would you like on the end? How long? Etc...

Without much water-hunting experience, it seems like I'd have a hard time designing EQ rods, or scoop handles, that would meet the needs of beach hunters...

Everyone,

I just wanted to note that I am now able to make "tall man" rods, to whatever length you desire, on a "special-order" basis. I've had a couple of guys ask me to make them longer-than-standard rods (standard being 32", the same as the Minelab factory rods), and so I thought I'd mention that this is now something I'm able to do. There is an up-charge, as it's more expensive to order longer tubes, and to order them "one at a time" versus in bulk, but nonetheless, it's an option for anyone wanting a rod with extra length.
