Re: A Large Cent and a coin I can't identify

Is it copper and the same size as the cent?

Re: A Large Cent and a coin I can't identify

1808 and later bust faced left before 1808 right---that might help somewhat in the id--Ivan

Re: A Large Cent and a coin I can't identify

Whats the reverce look like ? I've been comparing it to coloniels but havent found anything similar.Mabey Vermont or Conneticut ?

Re: A Large Cent and a coin I can't identify

Possibly one of the many varieties of George Washington cents... circa 1783...

Re: A Large Cent and a coin I can't identify

Is that a capped bust coin perhaps?

Re: A Large Cent and a coin I can't identify

my money is still on colonial of some sort. There is so many variations it may take some work to pinpoint. Have you soaked it in some olive oil yet? That may help bring out some of the writing and help with the ID.

Re: A Large Cent and a coin I can't identify

I also think colonial... there seems to be text/symbols around the outside, not stars... and it's not the same profile as any of the busts...

However, I've needed glasses since 1974... so....

Yup, George II halfpenny. I believe they were made from approx. 1730's through 1750's? I am sure someone here will have the dates, great find!

Re: A Large Cent and a coin I can't identify

Too late but I knew it was a Geo II

Re: A Large Cent and a coin I can't identify

Thanks for the help and comments....The coin was about 5 inches deep (halfpenny) and the Large Cent about 3 inches down...Fertilizer just kills these coins....Last year found a 1777 Reale at the same fields...I will post a pic of that coin...
