Surprise Jetton dug yesterday in South GA. It’s brass or copper. Cool find in my book.

Yes, a German Jetton.

Wow! That a cool find. Looked it up and says as old as the 1600's or earlier. Congrats!

Thanks! When I first pawed it to clean it off, I saw the "DE" letters and told my buddies that it looked like a German coin of some sort. Based on the design, do you have any idea of it's age?

Thanks! Yes, Jetons or jettons are tokens or coin-like medals produced across Europe from the 13th through the 17th centuries. They were produced as counters for use in calculation on a counting board, a lined board similar to an abacus. They also found use as a money substitute in games, similar to modern casino chips or poker chips.

Its circa 1700-1750, you can narrow it by the masters initials.

Awesome ID! Thanks again!

Wow, I’ve never even seen one of those before. Good hunting

That’s an oldie but a goodie

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Thanks!

Very cool! Congrats!

That’s a cool piece of history. Congratulations!

Thanks!

Really nice! In my 40 years of playing in the dirt, I've only found one, so you've done great!

Yes Mam! Thanks!

What a great find! I don't recall seeing too many of these coins posted here. Very interesting!

It's not really a coin, its a counting token/counter.

And this is how it looked once. Minted in Nurnberg like most of them are. Obverse with King Ludwig XVI what narrows the date to the third quarter of 18thC. So you were very close! :occasion14:
