Hello all,

I have a couple buttons ,these were found yesterday out in a farmfield by a fellow hunter passing through for a hunt on his way back north from Florida....Scrounger D

They appear to be a 2-piece button....A. Hortsman Philadelphia Backmark he believes...

I thought they look like Marine buttons....but that is merely a guess...which is why I am here posting these up....

He has the buttons so these are the only pics I will have for these....

Thanks for any help ID'ing....

Definitely US Marines.

The backmark "Horstmann Philadelphia" (in large letters, with fully-spelled-out city name) dates from 1893 onward.

That being said... I myself have never seen a Horstmann backmark with a letter A at the start of the name Horstmann -- though of course such a thing may exist and I just haven't seen one. So, I suspect your friend may be seeing the final A in Philadelphia in front of the start of Horstmann ...instead of a backmark saying "A Horstmann".
