Woke up this morning to several vultures circling our house...thought that wasn't a good sign but decided to go detecting anyway. I'm glad I did because it was a good hunt! The only thing I like finding more than musket parts is sword parts and today I found only my second part...the hand guard. Found it in the same area I found the Royal Fusiliers button so may be 1812 era. Also added a couple musketballs to the collection, two tombac buttons with their shanks intact, another shoe buckle piece and the back from a silver wristwatch...

Looking out my window the vultures are still circling but I'm tucked away safe inside with my booty! ;D

To get an intact one you'd have to be able to detect the guard, yet the blade never having been higher than the plow line. So odds are probably against... although I have dug an intact scythe and witnessed another so it is possible. Of course both of those finds had me thinking sword! (They were old too... 1720-50 range)
Man,I know.I have dug several scythes and always think SWORD!!!Dang things
