This cornfield really is a puzzle to me. But, I might be figuring it out.

I went out today to basically get my 3 hour workout. Within 20 minutes, I got the prettiest sound. Not quite a 90 in all directions nor even an 86, (quarter), but an 83. With my AT that's usually a dime hit or sometimes a copper penny near the top. I get *VERY* few "coin hits" in this field I did my dance in all directions anyway.

When I finally popped the plug, I couldn't figure if it had been just so long that I wasn't recognizing a quarter. The size was odd. Not big enough to be a quarter, too big to be a penny. Even a nickle didn't seem right. After I dusted it off I saw the big "2" in the middle. I've found quite a few of these but haven't seen one in the field for a long time!

Hard to see here but in person, it says 1864.

1879

So.....maybe I'm starting to figure it out?

Hope so! Man! That's a *LOT* of work for 3 cents!!

Stay safe out there!

And thanks for peeking!

Now thats a good coin to toss in the Collection. It never ceases to amaze me how well people do in Farm , fields, corn fields, ect Good job you stay safe out there as well. Tommy

WTG Whadi, It's been some time since I've recovered a 2center, always a thrill, Congrts & HH

So you found two coins equaling 5 cents. Great job. The 2 cent piece is hard to find and the 3 cent nickel is even harder. The metal in the 3 cent really gets eaten up in most soils. Be careful if you clean it because it doesn’t take much to make them unrecognizable.

Congratulations on some real nice finds. Stay safe and keep swingin.

I've found a few US 2 Cent coins and they've all come out of the ground in pretty rough shape.
The fact that you even found one is a great find.

Thanks for the kind encouragement! But, is the picture of the 1879 Indian head cent that bad? :icon_scratch:

You are correct about the nickle 3 centers though. I 've found one of those and a trime as well. The nickle one really doesn't take too kindly to cleaning. :)

Way to go. Nice find. My farm field find yesterday was an 1897 V nickel. Much rather find what you did.

That field smells like seated silver....

Nicely done WHADIFIND! Stumbling thru the corn stubble paid off. It’s a good thing you saved it when you did, it may not have lasted much longer in the ground. Congrats!!

At lest 2 of the 3 amigos are happy! Blingie will get his shinny next time...maybe some old silver from the corn field.

The one before 8 comment was a reference to the coin dates. IMHO.

Great walk! Keep it up!

Of course! "1"...."8"....!

Doh!

Nice job on the coins Whadi. It's always exciting to dig a 2 Cent piece. Glad your figuring your field out.

Great find! I’d hunt all day for one of those.
