Along with 11 pennies, 1 nickel, 5 dimes, and 2 quarters, I managed to find a Sacajawea dollar tonight at a local school field. Of the hundreds upon hundreds of coins I have found, both old and new, this is the first dollar coin I have found metal detecting. 13339680_10201590567284183_7324021545343993568_n.jpg13342879_10201590567764195_57032505057564262_n.jpg13393956_10201590568164205_2401515063929525975_n.jpg

Sweet! Congrats on your first dollar coin! Nice finds too!

As you may have noticed the gold color doesn't stay on them long.

Congrats on the First 2m, :occasion14: it's good to get one checked off the list. I would definitely like to find one of those in at least 10 plugs a day.

I was wondering about that myself, found one Saturday and was thinking it should be gold but I really didn't know.

Congrats . If I could find a buck a hole I would quit my job . Lol

I tried spending some of mine at stores and was practically grilled over "what the coin was, where i got it, what happened to it and why does it look that way?"
I gave up trying to explain it all to them, now i just tell them..."it was in a can of coins out in the garage for a while and got leaked on"., then smile.
....we don't even have a garage! :D

Way better than digging 100 Cent Pieces.

Don't we all wish they would scrap pennies and force people to use dollar coins ? Wouldn't that be great !!

I've taken some to banks. I used to save all of them every time I ran across them. The teller I took them too didn't realize there was such a huge variety of them out there and thought they were fake at first. I had somewhere in the neighborhood of $450 worth of them.

Year ago I was metal detecting in Peru, and dug a lot of crappy coins on the beach. In Peru they scrutinize everything and almost nobody would take the coins believing they were fake... Even though I tried to explain to them that a
.10 cent coin was not worth faking, they just told me I did not know Peru, where people did all kinds of things to get over.. I finally used some of them in soda and vending machines as machines can't tell the difference between colored coins and normal... In Spain the coins would become eat up if left in the surf for years... I discovered that you can turn them in at the bank and they will verify the authenticity of the coins and exchange them for good money. I'm sure all countries do this as every currency goes bad after a while.

Vending machines will take them, no problem as long as they say they take dollar coins, Machines won't take .50 cent pieces as they are too big..
