I spend very little time in parks at least the open spaces, mostly in the woods..(Its quiet there he he) so chances of me finding a class ring are slim. Anyway today I needed my fix so after work I shot down to an old spot that has been pounded over the years by every detector in the area, yes including mine.. The site was once a very large hotel that had burned down around 1905 or so rebuilt and burned again I believe in the late 1920's. That being said you would not think a 1964 class ring would pop out of the ground but here it is.. I guess the real question is How the H@#& did we all miss a hunk of gold like that...I also found 2 wheat's 1909 (no not an S not even a vdb) and date unknown. well now I can play detective... Hey what do you think he was doing there Hmmmm...?

second photo is cleaned up...By the way its a Lafayette College ring

Well it only took a day for the collage alumni association to find the owner of the ring, and he called me on Friday night. He is from Georgia, we talked for a bit but he did not disclose the details of the day he lost the ring, he only said they would go there to sit and look at the river and Vally below. He offered to pay me a reward but I said no way, Knowing He has the ring back was reward enough for me. I mailed the ring to him on Saturday along with some photos of the area I found it and a photo of an old post card showing the hotel that once stood there. I also sent a letter explaining how deep the ring was ect. I got a letter back today that reads....

Dear Todd

I received your package in the mail yesterday and inside was the ring I had been missing for 43 years. I'm still in disbelief that you had found it and were willing to return it to me no charge. As I told you on the phone I think most people would have sold it. After opening the package I saw the enclosed photos of the location you found the ring, and it immediately brought back memories of the past, things I have not thought about for many years. I also enjoyed the enclosed letter detailing where and how you found it. My family and I spent that night reminiscing about my days in collage and the ring that had been lost for so long. The hill you found the ring on sure looks a lot different than I remember it, it was all grass not wooded as it appearers now. I do appreciate all you have done and would like to thank you very much. If you reconsider my offer to compensate you or at least pay the money you spent for postage and insurance I would be more than happy to send it to you.

Again thank you very much.

Great job on the find - Please keep us posted on whether or not you can locate the owner.

TnT, that kicks butt!! Class act not accepting anything for it!!!

What college was it from?

Well done, I would have done the same. The letter is reward enough.

What goes around comes around.

That is just too cool man! Oddly enough, last night we got a call about my fiances oldest sons class ring. He won it with an essay I believe, and it was the top of the line ring sold be that company. He had a lot of envious friends for sure. Well, a few months later he lost it and last night we got the call that the individual on the phone had found it in a Walmart restroom!!! He is sending it back to us in the mail as I type this.
It is truly an amazing feeling to find such honest poeple with good hearts.

I hope I can do the same thing one day.
Bigtime kudos to you!!!!!!!
