I headed out Monday with a couple of my good friends Scott and Jesse. We go to this site it was an old field used for I don't even know how many years.

This location has been known for putting out barbers, mercs and other silver coins. Jesse made a pass toward the left center of the field about 100 ft from me Scott was hunting about 20 ft from me.

My first signal was a penny signal I figured for sure it was a Memorial, I flip the plug wave the pin pointer over it and notice a small silver edge in the plug, thinking now it was a pull tab I pull this small coin out of the dirt. I saw the writing on the back and yelled I got something. I ran over to Scott and handed it to him the coin flipped in his hand and bam the pine tree shined in the sun. I freaked out like a school girl "it's a pine tree"! Scott flippant the coin over and sees the 1652 on the back side of the coin. I hear Jesse in the background say "no way". The three of us we so mind boggled the phones came out. Bill Ladd got a text with the pic of the coin and before I knew what just happened I was calling my wife, it was 7:58 am. It was a coin I had wanted to find since I started detecting a year ago. On the way to the site we were just talking about finding a pine tree coin.
Next step is get it graded and appraised and see if what I'm holding is really worth what everyone is saying.

I'm not here to split hairs over the quality of the coin. I have been told it and XF and could fetch around 8k it is a NOE 33 with pellets at the trunk. Like I said I have been told this I don't know what grade it is, we will see what's its worth once it's graded.

Here's an extremely nice AU-50 that sold for just over 7, so 8 for a dug coin? Not sure how they got to that number.

Stack's Bowers Galleries - Lot #6007 - 1652 Massachusetts Bay Colony Pine Tree Sixpence. Noe-33, W-670. Rarity-3. Pellets at Trunk. AU-50 (PCGS). CAC.

wonderful find!!!! you have had your find of a lifetime and it only took a year, the rest of it is all just gravy !! you have to be out east, how deep?what type of detector? Banner by a mile!!!

CONGRATS on one great piece of history. My Banner vote will be in for sure. I have to go with IP on this one, I am not expert but 2-3K will be my guess too. But look at it this way what ever it is 2k-8k or more that is more you had at the start of that day for sure :occasion14:.

When its your time its your time. Man what a find. Congrats on a Banner find.

Man, I hope I live to see MY time, lol. Congrats on a super, super find. Have you bought a tent and live in that field yet? Thanks for letting us see what one looks like, cause that's as close as most of us will ever come to one.

Also look at it this way... whether 2k or 8k I'd be keeping it! :)

The issue is an auction house is going to scrutinize the condition, but the main driver in the price is it only being a rarity 3. Only being a 3 you'll tend to only see high bidding wars over the high end coins because buyers know there will always be another. Instead of guessing on value there should be enough recent sales for this type if anyone wanted to really know I think you could find a couple to judge by. Either way, as I said regardless of value it would be in a 2x2 with my other coins and never be leaving. :headbang:

What do ya say on a find like that..... WOW just don't cut it. Congrats.:notworthy:

Those pine and oak tree coins are awesome! I'd love to find one myself, but I think I'm too far south. Banner vote is in.

Congrats on the great find Coinshooter! Did you find it in Mass?? Check out my 1 best find- Pine Tree Shilling. Yours is in great shape and looks to be a very high grade. If you are looking to sell, consider getting it slabbed by PCGS and consigned to Heritage Auction Galleries, who did a great job. I did that with mine as I promised the homeowner we'd sell & split anything of significance, and that Shilling surely was! Best of luck! Jeff

Well I have to tell you IP, just like your self, this coin would for sure join the family of coins I have to if it were mine. It is an AWESOME find he has there and doesn't get much better then that

Coin is no where near XF grade. Probably F-18. At most VF-20-25....,(I HIGHLY doubt 30), but I doubt it. One of the most common for a Ma. Silver variety Noe-33. I'm not taking anything away from this Banner worthy find, but a 2-3K price range, at sale, is a realistic price. So whom ever you got the XF grade from......obviously doesn't know what they are talking about. Fantastic find!!!! And Banner vote.

This is a common array of questions being asked. It was 5 inches deep, in solid packed clay/dirt, land (it was a small field). Had to "chisel" my way through the ground it was so hard. Im running a Fisher F75 SE Black 2 months old, very new to me. I am out east it was found in Rhode Island. With all the talk about grades and value here is my outlook on the coin. The historical value is worth far more to me than the money that it could bring in. This coin will stay the center piece of my collection for a while.
