Relic Hunting
in April of this year, I found my 1st water find, a 1992 class ring from Malvern High school in Ark. It was a woman's ring with the name Laura on it and her initials on the inside. I was detecting in the swim beach of Lake Degray state park with the daily permit and the ring was the only good find of the two day hunt. after going online using facebook with the high school, we were given Laura's (married) new name and ph #. the ring had been lost for 23 years and considered gone forever so she was totally excited that someone had even found it, much less was giving it back. the return pics are in my album, the rewards were the giant smiles, the heart felt hugs and the constant "I can't believe it!" the cool part is that how our lives have been connected, ever so slightly and yet through facebook we keep up with each other. The receiver (normally) never forgets who, what and where the return happened and is quick to tell everyone what has happened. In many cases this act actually opens doors for us to detect other places, it also is a great tool in changing some people's opinions of those who metal detect. so what do we get out of it? the actual thrill of finding it, the research that locates the owner, the anticipation of the return, the sheer excitement of the owner at the return, a possible friend for life and the possibility of doors being opened because of this act. People talk and suddenly out of the blue, someone tells you of a spot or remember someone losing something and the doors open wide, permission granted. And yes, sometimes there is a reward or tip but that is totally up to them, not required by me. So I'd say that we have plenty to benefit from by this simple act of returning a lost item or items to the owner, besides, it is also the right thing to do when possible. I have a lot of respect for those who chose to do this if they can and there seems to be quite a few members that feel the same way. Thanks

should be honorable mention right there !!!
