A few digs from the 1904 schoolhouse today

I found out that an adjacent lot was part of the school property and not part of the neighbor's yard. I went for a couple hours today....45 minutes in the middle of the day, and about 90 minutes this evening, and pulled this stuff up from this vacant lot. There's another 1/4 acre for me to sweep now. Just in time, because the coins were getting pretty thin on the rest of the lot.

Nothing earth shattering, as usual....but stuff that's now "in captivity" instead of imprisoned in the dirt. I still get the same thrill from finding a silver coin as I did 20 years ago.

:o Indians are tough to get. And the silver quarters are sweet. Heck, anything silver or old is sweet. I couldn't wait to get back there if I were you!

Very COOL.

Silver is always Nice.

This place has been generous with the silver too. Over the last 10 days. I've managed 15 silver rosies, 4 mercs, the 36 quarter, and a sterling ring. I'll be hitting that area again for sure.

Whites,

very nice, and sounds like there should be more to come from that other 1/4 acre.

Silver is always nice.

have a good un................

I'm hoping that there's lots more goodies there. I barely scratched the surface tonight. I also dug 3 clad quarters, 5 clad dimes, 13 other pennies besides the Indian head...3 of which were wheats. I also dug some junk....deep foil, a fishing sinker, a square chunk of lead, and a short flattened section of old copper tubing...or maybe brass. It was pretty heavy.

whites6000, I would be interested in knowing what your detector settings are. I haven't varied too much off of my presets on my 6000 di pro!!!! Haven't really needed too, I find enough stuff as it is!!! Give me some of your knowledge, please!!! I helped out a friend of mine the other day that is new to the sport. He has an MXT, I read the other day that you can use relic mode to get a different tone so we tried that yesterday and he did alot better!!! That led me to thinking I haven't really ever tried too much other than the presets on my machine. Good luck w/ that schoolyard lot.............Nascarfan

Very nice assortment,,, WTG!!!
Good luck & Happy hunting~

Hey Nascarfan......Like you, I have not messed too much with the detector aside from running it in the pre-set mode. I do sometimes turn the sensitivity up a little (clockwise), and the discrimination down a little (counterclockwise). Just remember to ground balance after each and every adjustment.

I usually hunt in TR mode. I balance the machine in GEB disc mode sometimes, then balance it in TR if the machine's getting "flaky" on me....telling me pennies are quarters and the like.

My 6000 is one that I have been watchingfor on eBay to see if any come available....and haven't seen one yet. Its designated on the manual as model 6000DiPro HR.....which stands for "hot rock". There are 4 positions on the power switch...on...hot rock accept....hot rock reject...and battery check. There are a good many hot rocks here, so I run it in "reject" mode. I may try accept in this new lot because there's not much junk. I may get a little better depth wihout that filter?

Went there briefly this morning....found 11 pennies....one's a 1909 wheat in "not too bad" condition. Green, but not pitted.....and a 1964 rosie. This school was last operated in 1964. The 1965 school year was in the new building. I have hunted there too....and not a speck of silver.

Hey Lance............Once I get bored digging this baby boomer silver....I have an 1800 Quaker church and an early 1800s cellar hole and cabin site to hunt. I'm actually going to do those in the springtime....after the deer hunters are all out of the woods....and before the snakes wake up. I've seen some of your finds, and I'm not sure if I have the patience to hunt really old places.....but I'm going to give it a go.
