Me & my hunting buddy Steve in SJ hit a colonial site in the woods this past warm weekend.
My first find was a half of a Reale which was 5 inches deep. I think its an 8 Reale as it is wider than an Eisenhower dollar. When I first pulled it out of the hole, I thought it was a piece of scrap metal by looking at it being all corroded and not looking like a coin. But is sounded real nice on the detector. I took a minute to rub the edge & when I saw 786, I knew what I had. When I got home, I put it in electrolysis for about 20 minutes & a lot of the corrosion flaked off.
Later in the afternoon I found a large cent dated 1817 and a large button. My buddy Steve also found a large cent and is working on getting a date out of it. It was nice to get out in-between cold spells...
