Found by me in Thonotosassa, Florida. This is a strange looking one but what can you do? My guess is that somehow it broke but someone decided that they still needed it and reworked it possibly into a blade or just a smaller point, either way it's pretty unique. Also, this is another point I gave a mineral oil bath years ago 20200505_233543.jpg20200505_233604.jpg20200505_233625.jpg20200505_233643.jpg20200505_233720.jpg20200505_233700.jpg

I love the material! Has that knife look to me. I think you are correct on the broken and reworked into a blade assumption.

I don't think your point was broken at all, but one that was resharpened from one side, probably a few times, resulting in a bevel for scraping on that side and cutting on the other. Not an Edgefield, but possibly a persistence in that technology that was carried forward to be used in later points like yours and this one that I found several years ago. Once again, just my humble opinion.

I've hafted lots of points with sinew and rawhide. Occasionally, as the sinew dries and tightens up it will pull the point to the side so the tip of the point is off center. With the sinew dry, it's rock hard. Instead of wetting the sinew and doing it over, I just rechip the hafted blade so it is straight with the shaft. If you were to remove the point it would now look like the above point with the "crooked" base. I'm not saying all of them are like that, but it definitely happened. Gary

I agree with both Sandchip and ToddsPoint, lots of reasons for an off center point.

That said, I think AntMike is spot on, that big, hinged, steep flaking towards the tip looks like salvage work to me.

I would have loved to see this first stage, it was probably a monster.

hey sandchip, that point is killer. It looks like coastal plains chert.
