What does the back of te button look like? I'm thinking overall button if the back has a "stud" versus a shank..

Item below the buttons is definitely 1/2 of a bullet mold.

All neat finds!

Looks like half of a bullet mold to me also. And it looks like an enfiled type bullet. If civil war era it should measure in the 50's...d2

thanks guys i measured the inside width of the bullet mold and it measures 15cm, and the length fromback to tip is 35cm. I really am not familiar with how or what constitutes a caliper. ???
so if any one could narrow it down to caliper by these measurements and let me know if it is an enfield type mold that would be great.

thanks,
Jeff

no small holes up the side, it is very thick, calling it a tube on my part was kind of misleading, altough it was tube like at one time.

I dont think thats a button . I've got one and I think someone told me that its an emblem off the side of a handsaw handle.

15 mm is equal to .59 inches which may be a 58 or 59 caliber as sometimes the size is based on the chamber.

If it was 15 cm then that would be almost 6 inches in width so i am assuming ( yes I know!) that the reference was a typo.

The 35 mm length is equal to 1.38 inches

The Enfield rifle had a bore of .577 inches and the ratio of the bullet length to bore is 3 to 1... 35mm to 15 mm so it fits the descriptions of a Enfield.

It would help if i actually read and comprehended the text huh in a post?? It seems like a overall button to me.. sort of like the train ones.. but it might be a regular button too..

Nice finds, Coolbeans, The bullet mold part is interesting. Some of the gun guys on here are good and will probably get you a caliber and date from your measurments, Theres quite a bunch listed on eBay but couldn't find an exact match. heres one from 1884 40-82 caliber thats similar. I have found old empty brass marked that caliber.

if the mold is say about .58 cal --a civil war era enfield mold would fit the bill nicely as would its general bullet shape shown by the mold--an enfield rifle is listed as 577 cal --mold roughly measured .58 cal --(very close) hot dog seems like a weiner to me. --- Ivan
