Well, Today we drove out to a small town with a older school to detect. We get all the way out there (30 Miles) and rule #6 on the sign says NO Metal Detecting >:( So, on the way back home we hit a older park in Portland and then a newer (1960's) elementry school. I figured today would be a clad hunt, if anything. Well, I got 2 firsts today at the 1960's school (Just goes to show, you never know).

I found a match to my 1925 Wheatie I found 2 weeks ago, only this one is a 1925-S. I also got my first Buffalo nickel, 19??-D and a 1981 Peru "50 Soles De Oro". If anyone can provide me any information or pricing on the Peru coin, it would be great! I also got a 1957 nickel, I thought that was neat ;D

Now for the pictures.....

Hey Stormy, I tried to look up the exchange but your coin was discontinued in 1985.

This site is good for current foreign exchange.

I also looked it up on ebay. The only modern coins for sale are irregulars. So I'm guessing it isn't much of a collector's item. Sorry.

Still a very cool find and worth hanging onto! Love the buffalo too! Ah squeaky clean! LOL
Daisy ;)

Since it is dicontinued, I guess its only value is in the eye of the beholder ;D

WTG Storm. Too bad about the older school you couldn't detect. That coin sure cleaned up nice.

Did you use a specific formula in the tumbler?

I had my other clad running in the tumbler, I just stoped it and threw it in with the rest of the coins for 30 mins. White Aquarium gravel, few drops of household soap, and water. I didn't let it run a long time, just wanted to get some of the higher parts clean. It is very close to looking like one that I pulled out of circulation not to long ago.

Did you try some Nic-A-Date on the obverse of the nickel. It works pretty good. You cant see the date, so i dont think you can hurt the coin any worse. You might have a key date or semi key date nickel! Coinman66

I was thinking of getting some to try out. I guess I will order it off ebay if I cant find a local supplier.

Congratulations on your first Buffalo Nickel. Looks nice even if no date. More than half of the Buffalo nickels Nate and I find you cannot read the date.

Stormtrooper, I like your buffaloe nickle, are they Silver (pure) I ask this because the way I clean up my Silver coins, is to lay them on tin foil (the type you use for roasting) spit on the coin and gently rub the two together, this produces a chemical reaction and lifts of grime from the coin.

No silver in them at all actually. 75% copper, 25% Nickel I think. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I wish it were silver though, I'm still waiting for my first silver coin. I think I may do a top secret ( :-X ) project with my buffalo find, sice it is my first and all

Your 50 Soles Peruvian coin is aluminum-bronze and is listed at VF-.10 XF-.20 and Unc-.50 19,923,000 made.....from World Coins 1901-2000 by Colin R. Bruce II

Man, I wish I could find a Buffalo nickel. Looks like a good day for ya.

Dang, Maybe I will trade it for a quarter HEHEHEHE ;D

Hey that nickel is pretty good shape. Too bad you can't make out the date.

That Peru coin is very cool. Sorry I can't offer any info on it :-(

Anyhow, great finds! Clad is always fun in my book. At least your sure the detector works :-)

Nice finds. Gotta love the dfx, eh? Have you got the free book from white's yet? Called "understanding the dfx". It's a great read.
