Sweet 1867 IHP! Hope I can get the remaining dirt/crud off it. Want to be careful given its excellent condition.

Love the store card. Also in excellent condition. Flying eagle would be nice too if it weren't for the environmental damage on the back.

Large cent is a bit rough...and holed.

Lead Finds 083124.jpg

Lead seems to be the material of choice for today's oddball finds. Nice little ingot. Probably for making the musket balls.

Today's finds...

1843 Large Cent, Holed
1857 Flying Eagle Cent
1863 Civil War Store Card, Fairbank & Scriver, Lawton, Mic.
1864 Fatty Indian Head Penny
1867 Indian Head Penny (Sweet!)
1903 Indian Head Penny
1917 Mercury Dime
(2) Lead bag seals
Lead Ingot

beauties for sure, wtg!

Nice finds.

I have a question, why did they hole coins? Wear it as a necklace or just out of pure boredom?

Nice hunt! Congrats
Liking the condition of the coppers.

Coinage was holed for the purpose of sewing inside of clothing.
This was for safe keeping while traveling.
Coinage with 2 holes across from each other was a coin turned into a Whizzer.
Then there are the single large center holes, and that was from making a washer.
Some coins have sq. punched holes. They used a square nail.
A large cent might have been nailed to a beam above a doorway for goodluck.

You consistently find some really nice old coins. Can I ask where you are hunting? In the city in yards? In the country at former house sites? Fairgrounds or other venues? Coins are very elusive around here and I need all the help I can get!

Nice going thanks for sharing with us

I'm with #Toddspoint, I would like to know what type of setting you're hunting to find so many wonderful old coins.
