I hope this token isn't the same Iv'e had this for about 25 years. What does the A and E stand for in those pics anyway???

Dont think its the same as the protestor pics because of the shape of the A......I dont know what the protestor A and E stand for .....but I can make a pretty good guess on the 'A " ;)

Another thought is a challenge coin. The one below is an A Company, 3/187th Infantry. Note that the "A" is similar in shape. Although most challenge coins are more elaborate.
