So, at the gas station there was a “take a penny leave a penny” container. In it, I found a 1970 s penny. I left a penny and took the 1970 s.

Under a magnifier, I checked if it was a valuable small date or a large date. Here are the pictures.

Now, before I get excited, because it looks VERY much like a small date to me, I want another person’s opinion.

So, what do you think? Large or small date?

I got a notification that someone replied on my Email. I saw the message, but it’s not here. I wonder what happened?

That may have been me. As soon as I posted my phone locked up and then wouldn’t let me change the photo, so I deleted and am posting again.

Your penny looks like a small date to me, so you may have a winner!

Now I’m not so sure after looking at it again.
Someone else who is more familiar with the small/large date pennies may have to chime in.

How much is a 1970 small date penny worth anyway?

I mean, I do have a jar full of pennies (and a couple of nephews with time on their hands). :)

Sometimes a nice example can fetch $50-$70 in uncirculated condition but I saw a near proof small date go for nearly $1000 on ebay a couple years back.

I just emailed a coin expert that I know. I’ll let you all know what he says when he gets back.

Looks like a small date to me. Not worth a lot in that condition, so you're not going to retire selling it. A few dollars at most.

I agree with Cudamark. Great circulation find, congratulations, just not a lot of value.

Any time you can cherry pick a neat find like that for a $0.01 investment is a good day. Congrats!
