I found a Gold Ring today with 916 on it. I never heard of this but found out it is 91.6% Gold, about the closest you can get to 24K.

Would 916 be 22K? Never found one detecting, I don't think. Now, I don't remember, LOL!
Sweet find!

OK, yep, there ya go!
What is 916 Gold? | What is?

"When you talk about 916 gold that means it is 91.6% pure gold. This kind of gold is mixed with cadmium for strength and durability. In carats, 916 gold is equivalent to 22 CT. Depending on the country rating of pure gold differs. In some countries like India, the highest purity of gold is the 916 gold or the 22 CT. On the other hand, Western countries rate pure gold as 24 K, which means gold at its 100%."

Congrats.Awesome find.I think thats 22k gold.HH.

Two years ago, I found this East Indian bracelet that was marked 916.
Even though it had hollow links, it still weighed 16 grams.

The gold buyer tested it @ 22K when I went there to scrap it.
Luckily, this was when gold was at around $1700 an ounce.
Nice ring. :icon_thumright:
Cheers,
Dave.

I found the owner and returned it today - I asked where it came from and she said India - So, you were right on!!

Nice, nice ring! Congrats on returning it!

Nice return...how did you find the owner?

It was lost at a festival, I found a bunch of rings so I contacted the owners and they said they had a "lost & found " list with names and numbers.

Nice...Karma will treat you right.

A local store I frequent is owned by a nice couple from India. Over the years we've become friends. Knowing my passion for metal detecting, occasionally they show me pieces of their daughter's dowry gold. All is stamped 916. They say it is 22k. The color alone is beautiful!
Bullion in the US, Canada, S.Africa, England and many others is 24k. 24k is so soft that it requires a bit of alloy to make it wearable. I believe this to be the case with your ring.
Absolutely fantastic find! Continued success... Peace
