90 dregrees and thankfully no separation :) But when this old you don't complain! :)

Got out today to an old favorite site and was happy to see the crop was out and a few goodies had been turned up by the plow. The coin is only the 2nd of the type I have ever dug, and tech. I guess I would have to consider it my oldest as it was countermarked 50 years before my other. Wasn't a bad day at all.

Great finds IP that 1500's silver is AWESOME, I do like that silver button too. It is real nice to go back to a great spot that produced before and have it give up more of its treasure. That happened to me today and will be posting in the near future once I get them all cleaned up. How much does the 1500's weigh IP?

A very hefty 1.41 grams. :)

Send it to me...I'll straighten it! I batting a 1000 with straightening French silver coins...so far :laughing7:

I can, but will have to make the trip with my shot gun. (just in case) :)

As I sit here giving an Indian Head a peroxide bath I read your post and realize I am in the wrong part of the country! Fantastic hunt. Talk about variety. You have it all. Thanks for sharing.
HH and have a great season!

Took me awhile but is the 'stamp' on the obverse at 3'oclock on its side?

Where ever it is, it's a super early one for your side of the pond.

Some interesting buttons as well. That rusted up one looks like it may have been early military.

Nice going on the oldie and the great assortment of finds for sure. The sites might be thin in the number of finds but with every plowing it seems to turn enough up to make it produce a sweet keeper or two. This one is a kind of find that makes a person want to get out and try it every season for sure.

Yes, for the correct position you'd rotate the coin 90 degrees left and the stamp would be at the 3 0'clock. The stamps were very randomly placed.

The button confused me when I dug it, and still confuses me now, and I thought once cleaned I'd have the answer. At first I thought something had rusted over it, but once I cleaned/scraped some of that material away I can see how it was part of the design. I've never seen iron on a the face of a quality made button like this and the only other option would be wood, which can sort of look like rust. I really have no clue. The shank is early, so think it's 1760s or 70s, and I do think that's a very good chance it is a fleur de lys on the face. and is an early French button.

Great finds!

Awesome assortment of finds Great Job.

Man you don't manage to get out much but when you do! look out! That is one sweet coin! actually all those finds are quality! Congrats

That is one amazing find IP. A 1500s coin is one thing the most people on this side of the pond just don't put on their "Most Wanted " list just because they think it is unobtainable over here, but you and just a few others have done it. So, to find the unfindable truely should be Banner worthy, don't you think. I will cast my vote and hope that others will too. This find deservers to be up top just to let the rest of the members here know that 400+ year old coins do exist in North America but it takes a little effort to bring them to the surface.
Congrats IP on a fantastic find.:notworthy:

Wow, and I thought breaking into the 1600's for a silver was tough. Looks like I have some catching up to do! Big Congrats, that coin is great.

Man, those are some first rate finds! Congrats on the nice buttons and KILLER silver find! I dug a basket weave button recently in one of my Acadian sites down here with the same design, but no where near the amount of silver gilding.

BIG time Congrats!

Always nice for the goodies to keep showing up at an old site. Love the French silver!

the possible button mold, curious if any of your french marine buttons would fit in there?

Now that's pretty sweet! Gotta find me one of those one day :laughing7:

That was my first thought too, but there's no edge to create the rim. The next morning having a little more brain power I looked again and I think it's probably a lid to something. Sort of interested to know to what though.

PS: IH and I are hitting the Militia site tomorrow! :headbang: Should be one or two left there. Just hope the conditions are as good as they always have been.
