90 dregrees and thankfully no separation :) But when this old you don't complain! :)

Got out today to an old favorite site and was happy to see the crop was out and a few goodies had been turned up by the plow. The coin is only the 2nd of the type I have ever dug, and tech. I guess I would have to consider it my oldest as it was countermarked 50 years before my other. Wasn't a bad day at all.

1500's silver! Lucky Dog. :notworthy:
Congrats on the recoveries IP. Some awesome buttons.

Here's the ID for the coin. French King Henri III, Douzain of Dauphine 1st issue (1570s)

Nice finds, way to go.

Very nice, Iron Patch. I'm sure there will be many more great finds for you before the ground freezes.

Thats some awesome finds

You did it again!

Is that the second of that type from the same site as the other one you found?

Lots of nice shiny stuff you got there, well have to try and pick up some more this week sometime, I got some time to put the shovel in the ground now

The other is most likely King Henri III as well, but not Dauphine... so this is an entirely different coin. The other is a 15 Denier countermarked in the 1690s... and this was marked in 1640 just with the fleur de lys, so that is different too. Mike B. dug a 1640 one on our hunt with the boys many years back and this is only the 2nd to pop up.

yeah any day! Let me know.

NJ site is open for business.

That sounds good, I always liked that site

Did you hunt there or was it the site you and Patriot hunted this spring? Either way I would gladly hunt each or both

Amazing finds ! Unless someone finds Viking silver , i gotta think that's about as early as you could hope to get - Incredible !

That's a great day! Those finds are amazing, And to find a coin counter marked for use in the colonies is about as cool as it gets.

Super find IP, boy aren't they thin! I know the one my son found registered in the foil range on his Fisher CZ . We never could make out the counterstamp on his, whether it had one or not. All the other finds are great, not sure what the mold is for, what size would the cast piece be?

I've literally seen hundreds (well say 100 for sure) of various countermarked douzains and even the faintest are easy to tell they were marked. So it sounds like what you guys have is a douzain that just happened to make it over.

It measures 26mm to the outside edge, and 19mm inside.

Wow......... awesome finds. Makes my afternoon look kinda measly ha ha. Congrats:icon_thumleft:

Cool Silver. I guess that would be as old as one could expect.
Can see why that would be a favorite site.
I don't think being bent would bother me too much either, at least not broke, and IDable.
Now I'm hyped for tomorrow. ;D

Great finds IP that 1500's silver is AWESOME, I do like that silver button too. It is real nice to go back to a great spot that produced before and have it give up more of its treasure. That happened to me today and will be posting in the near future once I get them all cleaned up. How much does the 1500's weigh IP?

On the way home I debated to myself whether I'd contact one of the relic restoration guys to possibly fix it, but before getting back already decided I'm fine with it as is. Once I got it cleaned up, and inspected the bend a little closer, I think it's too far gone for even the best to straighten so I don't have to 2nd guess my choice.
