Hello All. Found this hunting with Btoots last week at the beach, about 16 inches deep. It is 25.4 grams of shipwreck silver and represents several superlatives for me. First piece of shipwreck silver found, Biggest piece of silver found, Oldest piece of silver found, Oldest piece of anything found...I could go on but you get the idea...

We did not know what it was at first and I put it in the "look-at-later pile" for a couple of days. I am very happy to have found it...many thanks to Btoots for suggesting and organizing the hunt...I owe you SIR MIKE SIR!!

I have spent several hours over the last few days cleaning it, hoping NOT to see the word "COPY"...this thing is astounding and authentic. The back, non-cross side, was totally crusted over with sand and is as amazing as the front side.

Used BuckleBoy's cleaning method...baking soda, tin foil, boiling water, and think I am gonna stop here for now while it still looks a bit like shipwreck silver.

Thanks for the view and may the finds be with you. C9

BTW please let me know if you have any special insights on the strike marks.

Outstanding find. Definitely high on my bucket list to find. If you want the rest of the crusted sand to fall off you can zap it with electrolysis for 30 seconds. But it looks pretty darn good just the way it is. Congrats!

Awesome.

Yeah about clean enough, nice maybe to see the rough green stuff gone, but the remaining black tarnish to stay.

Surprised no Banner votes, I think it is worthy.

Definitely banner worthy - in fact, I'm voting now!
