75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

4.5 hours on my own & Cru'dad GPSing again.

75 Roman Bronze's (best day ever) which is 1 every 4 minutes, including all the lead & rubbish. Its all in the speed of recovery  Thats the art of UK detecting :P

See picture of lead to know why I like Lead Patches better than Iron Patches

4 short of 150 Bronzes in 3 days. But only 1 Roman Silver, goes to prove how hard they are to get even on a site like ours!

A nice Roman Mount
Possible Lead Roman document Seal

Strange how little artifacts we are getting. Normally we would have several brooches by now :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :dontknow:

Crusader , I started to wonder in your last post "Best 1 day roman count ever" about your coin to fibula ratio ?? I would think 10-12 or more to one fibula would seem reasonable ? I've hunted a bit in Holland ,and have found 4 or 5 fibula's but only about 10 roman coins ? Could just be those Dutch are a bit tight on the 'O purse string !! Is it possible for you to elaborate on the "law of averages" in the U.K.
Great job there Mate !! Van Pig....?

I would expect about 1 fibula to every 30 coins.

Not even nightly scumbags can stop your crusade on unearthing great treasures :hello2:

A Roman mount is that like a jewelry pendant of sorts? Take it yours pictured last pic right.

I second the request for a closer pic of the Roman silver.

What was you minute lead count ;D

No more a leather mount on a belt or horse leather.

Is all that miscellaneous lead from weaponry or jar seals or.....who the heck knows? Just curious, and nice haul for the work...yet again.

They used lead for many things, sometimes lead shot but in a settlement like this, it would be plugging hole in broken pots etc..

Crusader,

Hello from the other side of the pond.
All of your finds are great....but to us Americans we don't know what all of these coins are worth. They just
look like a bunch of dirty ol coins.

Please share in your posts what the coins values are and maybe what time period they are from.

Thanks and didn't mean to affend,
Fishstank

With less coins I would normally do a full description. Now I will only do it for the rare ones. They are pretty much worthless so no point putting value down. 100 of these might make $30.

That is an incredible day. What was your Roman bronze count from last year?
I'd love to see a closer photo of the silver.

Cheers, my friend. :occasion14:

510 but we are already on 448.

The silver is so debased, its hardly worth picturing, but it is a ruler I need.

Hi Cru, this field is pretty good, it delivers pretty good quality bronze coins. Not farmed much in the past or without fertilizer or such I guess....

Its near the river & has sandy soil. Its been farmed as much as the rest, although who knows what farmers put on their fields over the years.

Can't wait until its ploughed. The stubble is killing me & its too harder ground for Cru'dad to dig with his knee injury (old one, came back).

Re: 75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

Crazy amount of romans :o
I guess the artifacts must be there too. You just have to clean out the coins as normal people clean out the aluminium or iron :D
