75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

4.5 hours on my own & Cru'dad GPSing again.

75 Roman Bronze's (best day ever) which is 1 every 4 minutes, including all the lead & rubbish. Its all in the speed of recovery  Thats the art of UK detecting :P

See picture of lead to know why I like Lead Patches better than Iron Patches

4 short of 150 Bronzes in 3 days. But only 1 Roman Silver, goes to prove how hard they are to get even on a site like ours!

A nice Roman Mount
Possible Lead Roman document Seal

Strange how little artifacts we are getting. Normally we would have several brooches by now :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :dontknow:

I did 8 hours plus yesterday to get 50. Thought it was impossible to beat, but managed it in half the time. If I had stayed I could have broken 100 but it takes Cru'dad hours to record & weigh etc.. so left in time for him to do this.

I can't waited until its ploughed a rolled & Cru'dad is helping :laughing7: This ground work will give us the limits to work in, I'm glad we GPS now. Its in the middle of a massive field. I seem to remember some fool asking why we bothing doing it when they get so spread around ::) Watch & learn (not you Shaun7)

Looks like quite a few 4th century coins :read2: is this the case with most of the coins, perhaps a later Roman site :dontknow:

Yeah. It seems to start in the mid 3rd Century & is very successful in the 4th.

Re: 75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

Beautiful recovery Crusader :hello2:
May it continue.

Re: 75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

Crusader , I started to wonder in your last post "Best 1 day roman count ever" about your coin to fibula ratio ?? I would think 10-12 or more to one fibula would seem reasonable ? I've hunted a bit in Holland ,and have found 4 or 5 fibula's but only about 10 roman coins ? Could just be those Dutch are a bit tight on the 'O purse string !! Is it possible for you to elaborate on the "law of averages" in the U.K.
Great job there Mate !! Van Pig....?

Re: 75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

Is all that miscellaneous lead from weaponry or jar seals or.....who the heck knows? Just curious, and nice haul for the work...yet again.

Re: 75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

75 Roman... DANG, that's awesome. You make me want to hunt there soooooo bad. Just one Roman coin would leave me needing an emergency room doctor, lol...

Thanks for letting us see the goodies CRUSADER. I'm happy for you buddy.

Re: 75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

Crusader,

Hello from the other side of the pond.
All of your finds are great....but to us Americans we don't know what all of these coins are worth. They just
look like a bunch of dirty ol coins.

Please share in your posts what the coins values are and maybe what time period they are from.

Thanks and didn't mean to affend,
Fishstank

Re: 75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

Not even nightly scumbags can stop your crusade on unearthing great treasures :hello2:

A Roman mount is that like a jewelry pendant of sorts? Take it yours pictured last pic right.

I second the request for a closer pic of the Roman silver.

What was you minute lead count ;D

Re: 75 & finally a Roman Silver.....

I will get back there one of these days. Every time I see the roman loot ,my mouth waters. Have you ever tried to sell any of your common stuff for more detecting supplies?
