Ya it's funny.... cause the ground to the East and the West of me is way better. (mostly better in Kansas) And I'm originally from Portland Oregon where it's like digging in butter!! Soooo it's been enteresting trying to get used to the ground around here. :BangHead:

What! You dug that fantabulous silver coin and called it a day? :o Geeze. I can remember once a couple of years ago Lisa and I decided to brave the 30 degree weather and dig. We had no idea the ground could freeze here, but to our surprise, we should have brought a chisel. :P Was just a little extra excitement added to the day....oh...and mud in our pockets. :D

I think those are feathers. Super diggin! :icon_sunny:

Congrats on the SLQ you old lucky dog!! I'm surprised to hear about the ground over there though, I went to Stoney tonight for an hour and had no trouble digging...the top inch or two was a little stiff but after that the Lesche went in and popped plugs!!

Glad to see you got out! Congrats again!

The ground in southwest PA is like butter, even in the shade. I too found a standing quarter no date (my 1st ) At a hunted out park.

Wow Jeff, I never thought I would see one of AP's dig tools bend like that! That's some hard diggin'!

Second time I bent it, But first time was trying
to pop a
Buried Boulder. This time was a complete surprise.

But I Guess thats why they invented Hammers.
(That and for Anastasia in the field)

Is it the clay like material I get into here in Missouri? Cause you combine that with frozen ground.... and I actually BROKE IN HALF one of my lesche's trying to dig in it.

Yes Most Likley.
it definately Reminded me of Hard clay,
but don't remember the Problem here
earlier this year.

in Fact earlier this year I Dug a Drop
consisting of a standing, & 2 Mercs
& didn't have to fight to get at them

i was born and raised in missery, the dirt out there is like diggin concrete on a soggy day

I only found one place last year where
the ground was that hard all year.
We do have alot of Yellow Clay,
but even that is workable in the warm weather

Re: 60 Degrees in Central PA, Grounds Frozen to 6", I Retire !

WELL.....you took your machine out, and found a coin. I didn't even bother.
Has been well below freezing for the past 3 weeks. We would need hydrolic jacks to get into the ground....
and we would probably break their jacks. AND you dug a silver.....jeesh. Here in S. Korea I dig, on the
average, 1 silver a year....that's a good year. Dig thousands of other coins, from China, Japan,a nd Korea,
but no silver. ANYWAY.....good hunt. Now you know the stuff is there, and where "there" is. Keep us
posted......and drooling......over the other silver that comes out of the ground at that site. (And I did like
the scenery down the road, on the next hill, to the old school. Real pretty country.)

Halito Jeff,

Yep, I checked a couple of my standers, (both [well worn] 1928), and the feathers show up
just like your find.

Congratulations on a fine, off season find!!

Re: 60 Degrees in Central PA, Grounds Frozen to 6", I Retire !

Hey, I feel your pain with the solid ground. I'm hunting up here in Minnesota and its been solid for a while now but teasing us by not having snow in over a month.

Re: 60 Degrees in Central PA, Grounds Frozen to 6", I Retire !

Yea.
Have to catch someone at the Church. or

Local Police use the parking lot for Speed Trap Viewing.
I Figure one of these days he'll be sitting there, When I Come by
with my Detector in tow. & I'll stop & ask him his thoughts.

Since I saw someone else detecting it, & Not knowing
if they Had Permission, Were Thrown off, left alone,
or Never seen, I'm treading Lightly :tongue3:

I Don't like to hear "Someone was here before,
& Did damage, was that you ? >:( "
