So.................What can be done with lead sinkers? I like to hunt my local lake parks. I have accumlated 6 full coffee cans filled with lead sinkers. Although a lot of work digging up sinkers, I have netted 37 rings so far this year by getting them out of my way. Any words of wisdom out there?

I had what felt like Tons.

I gave all mine to Friends who Fish.

Early Christmas present for anyone with old lead. In the early days the refiners could not get all the silver and gold out of lead ore. Now they can. There is a guy named L.C. Meredith who sells a cheap ($5) report on how to do that refining yourself. After you have removed the values you can get a mold from Lyman (sold by Cabellos) to make your own fishing weights from the leftover lead. I've never accumulated enough lead to pursue it but it should be worth your while with six coffee cans full. Even one ounce would net you $500. exanimo, siegfried schlagrule

melt them down into lead bars!

there are people who make lead sinkers, bullets, musket balls, etc.etc.etc....

SOMEBODY could put the lead to good use!

I pour diving weights with mine. You can get a mold from the dive shop or mining supply, and a hot pot from just about anywhere, Home Depot probably has them.

Dip it in Plasti-dip (kindof a rubber coating for tool handles) and now you have something to sell to the dive shops.

when we were racing dirt track stock cars we would go to the tire stores and get all the lead wheel weights they took off when they changed a set of tires..... we melted the lead down and made wight blocks for the race cars...... we used a chevrolet valve cover for the mold...... a full valve cover is about 50 pounds if i remember correctly

I am with Jeffro on melting them down for dive weights. Maybe a dive shop will buy the cans as is.

Used to do the same sort of thing for decoy weights, back in my duck hunting days.

Thanks so much for the ideas! I am going to keep the weird, old, unusual ones to display. The others....melt em' down.
