SOFIA – Bulgarian archaeologists found 56 gold and bronze coins dating back to the Eastern Roman Emperor Theodosius II (401-450) during a dig in Devnya, local authorities have said.

Sixteen gold coins have been discovered so far, almost all of them bearing the face of Theodosius II, except for one that shows his wife, Aelia Eudocia, and another Valentinian III, the emperor’s cousin.

Don.......

Hopefully they'll end up on display somewhere. Must be exciting digging up something like that.

Pretty sweet finds. The article also states that back in 1929 over 100,000 silver coins were found in the same spot. I would love to find a hoard such as that!

Unfortunately, the laws here in Bulgaria are quite strange. We have no right to search for such treasures, only to test our devices. And to comply with the law, we clean the meadows and forests of iron :) .
