We hear recalls for so many cars here its ridiculous!
So much for modern products. Worst was yrs ago a Toyota Rav4 I had. 2002?
They had time bomb computer crap. They got to around 12000 k here and the damn thing sent wrong codes and messages to the transmission destroying the trans. I had one. Cost me thousands. Thing was Toyota knew and said nothing. But you guys got a class action there I know and Toyota had to fix it for you guys. Us, they denied everything and we, I lost $5000.
I hate Toyota like the plague and would never buy another. We have had numerous Toyota issues in Oz since then. They are a crap dog company.

Sorry you had a bad experience with Toyota. However they are notoriously reliable vehicles. Yes companies do have a bad day now and then but they definitely are not a dog crap company. This isnt Nissan were talking about. Mind you this is coming from a mechanic who owns a fleet of early-mid 2000s GM products.

I have 2009 Tundra.
The heat pumps went on the truck.
The truck was under 10 yrs old at the time.
Toyota covered the replacement on warranty.
The dealer stated they billed it out as a $6400.00 replacement.

I believe every auto manufacturer has had a major recall of some sorts.

Many folks have had a lemon, and swore off ever buying another.

I sued a truck body company and Ford once over a truck.

I actually won the lawsuit.

The legal cost = the payout.

I still wear it on the chest like a medal of honor.🤣

Love my 2019 Tundra, one of the last years with a V8. I personally think switching the Tundra to a twin turbo V6 in 2022 was a bad idea (not to mention I think the new ones are ugly), but I'm sure the government and their mandates for mileage played a big hand in forcing Toyota to change. At least they're doing the right thing and fixing them. Lots of people in my area drive Chevys and they're pretty good at keeping the mechanics and parts stores busy.

Chilli..I would think a Toyota HiLux with a diesel would be about the best ute you could ask for.

I had a 2005 Tundra...loved that truck.

I will NEVER EVER EVER own a vehicle other than a Toyota.
I’ve owned 15 vehicles from 1988 to 2011. When I got my Tacoma, it was life changing.
I’ve never known a vehicle to be so durable and dependable.

I have a nissan 2014 pathfinder. Transmission went out 3 years ago cost me close to $5,000. No recall but it is well known to many that 2014 was a bad year for pathfinder transmissions.
A year after the transmission failure had to replace the engine. Bought from carmax and it was a leased vehicle. My mistake. the leaseholder never changed oil and gunk built up in the engine. Carmax must have changed the oil since the oil on the dipstick looked good. Had to buy another re-manufactured engine from the dealer. The car started smoking real bad. Check with a few people to see if you could use some type on engine cleaner and some said they really don't work. UGH. Never, ever will I buy a Nissan. I am just going to run this one into the ground since I have invested an additional $10,000 in the sucker. I should have stuck with Toyota. Had a Camry that ran to 200,000 without any major problem. I have heard Honda and Toyota are the most reliable automobiles.

I felt that way about Mitsubishi for a while -- owned two of them and put half a million miles on them with zero major issues. Then I got a Montero that had a "bad batch of steel", supposedly, and started having rust issues, and shortly thereafter, started having engine issues. Not a lemon, by any means, but nowhere near as trouble free and reliable as the previous two. Did it sour me on Mitsubishi? Not really. I think you win some and you lose some, no matter who the manufacturer is. I've owned Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki (motorcycle), Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Chrysler, and Pontiac over the years. The only one I would really not want to try again is Pontiac. Nothing but trouble out of the ones I've dealt with

Hi. You guys must get better quality control Toyotas than us. The last several yrs has been issued after issues. Dpfs burning out, paint peeling. Im always hearing of recalls. They used to be considered here bullet proof but over the past decade or so they aint what they used to be.

Here they keep trying to weazle out of things and cover them up. Id call that a dog act every day of the week.

I better bow out here though because I know ragging on car brands others like is a bit like doing so with their loved ones. They say never discuss religion and politics, id add car and detector brands to that list too.

As you might say, "No worries". Not much of anything is as good as it was 20 years ago...with the exception of the price of gold and metal detectors, of course.

Wife and I are down to one car now, and it's a 2005 Hyundai Elentra we bought new in '05. Got 245,000+ on the odometer, and besides the oil, brakes and the odd tune-up, the only things I've had to replace are the alternator and headlamps. Engine still runs excellent and doesn't seem to burn a drop of oil between changes.

I personally dealt with recalls on a first person level. I built autos on an assembly line for 26 years. I finally got FED UP with management, engineers and quality control holding production line workers accountable for missed fasteners leading to recalls. It was THEIR FAULT. And when I spoke up I ran into a stone wall. I finally took a "stand" and all hell broke loose for the next 5 years. I did make a difference but it came at a price on a personal level. I went from a H.S. graduate working production to working for North American GM Engineering Operations.

I had no engineering degree. But I was asked by N.A. GM engineering to do just that. I traveled the U.S.A. schooling engineers across America on how to properly set up their production assembly lines at many assembly plants.

My point is the smartest people who build YOUR vehicles are the people who actually build them. Not the engineers behind a desk. NOT management or their upper leaders. Below is a article I wrote and a patent we acquired.
