I see alot of people are interested in this thread.
I like yard sales and I found a paperweight with five stacks of $100 bundles of $1 bills. My friend and i got really excited because the one on top and the one on the bottom were definitely authentic. If I remember correctly they were 1969 or 1963 bills or something like that. Anyway, the guy who was selling it sold it to us for $3 and we figured the adventure was worth the $3 investment.
Now, I normally keep tools in the trunk of my car but I didn't have anything to bust this up with. Now keep in mind I was 23 or 24 at the time and I was not into selling on ebay nor did I have a good idea of the value of things. It wasn't until years later that I found the same item on ebay and saw how much they were selling for. Anyway, we went to the closest hardware store and we were super excited and our energy definitely rubbed off on the clerks who were there. We convinced them to let us use a sledgehammer in the stock room to smash this thing open. We had the whole crew back there with us and there was so much anticipation and it took 3 or four good smacks to find out we had 498 blanks and two real dollar bills. It was a great rush of excitement, and then years later a huge feeling of disappointment to learn that people pay $150 for these things, I came across a similar lucite paper weight recently and purchased it with this thought in mind. I looked it up again and they are selling for $250. I wonder how rare this paper weight is getting when all these people are cutting or smashing them open. soon the value will be in the rarity, and not the mystery in my opinion.
You had to be there, it felt like I was about to win the lottery, great energy and it launched my curiosity in the value of curious items which is what I do for a living now.
I hope you all enjoyed my story and hopefully people still have this hope that someday that special treasure will cross there path and they will see it and reach out and grab it.
