Back on May 2nd, 2009 I was hunting an ongoing construction site in Sanford, FL. I had found several coins and relics from when Sanford was a major railroad hub pre 1900. The previous day my buddy found a gorgeous 1869 shield nickle and we talked about the possibility of a gold coin being amongst all the iron trash and believe me there was plenty. Well on this day I was alone and the finds were becoming scarce and I was now digging everything with the exception of iron. I got a nice mid tone on my F-75, thinking it was another pull tab because I was hunting in the vicinity of a sidewalk, I dug carelessly, cursing the soon to be found tab. The coin revealed itself and I immediately knew what I had found! A nice 1881 $5 GOLD COIN! It took me 14 years but I finally got one!

Oh man, that coin is gorgeous!
I've been after one of those for a long long time. Did that VDI in the mid 20's?
Way to go!

I hope some day in my life time........

14 years seems to be about right for a first Gold coin, I know some people have gone 20 without one :headbang: I think I was close to 15 or so, then it opened the flood gates
