5 Dime Trifectas and a Semi-Grand Slam! 51 Silvers, Injuns, 100's of Wheats!!

Hello My Friends!

Today, I reached another milestone for the year with my 203rd silver coin recovery. :headbang: I had to give the silver park a rest because the finds are getting real slim there now. I was hoping to try and continue my silver digging frenzy this year, and by chance, I stumbled upon a spot which has greatly exceeded my expectations. All the finds in my post have come from one site in the last 7 hunts there.

Today, I dug my best barber dime from the site, an 1895 S, which is in real good shape...maybe a $250 coin? I have found barber dimes in 5 out of my last 7 hunts there(only 1 on each of those days), which amounted to 5 dime trifectas, including a semi-grand slam, with the '47 Canadian dime on one of the trifecta days.

I have dug nearly twice as many Mercs as Rosies from this spot, and only 1 silver quarter, which is a sign that this spot must have been pillaged in the 80's and 90's by weekend hunters. Most of the coins were in the 7-9" range. If I wasn't keying in on deep, one-way whisper signals, I would have missed a good number of these coins, so you really had to concentrate hard to find them. Out of over 200 wheaties dug, I have found just 3 Indian head pennies, an 1892, 1900, and 1906. I forgot to mention that I broke my own record one day for wheat pennies found in one hole. After digging down around 8", I ended up removing 10 wheats from one plug. I also dug 2 silver rings, one being a sterling band, and the other a hand-made piece with a tiger's eye stone.

What a spot is all I can say!! Never in my 2 years of hunting has a site produced so much for me in such a short amount of time. ::) I hope everyone can stumble upon a site like this at least once in their detecting lives. No research was required. The willingness to re-work a site that a couple of my buddies and I thought was previously hunted out was the key to "old coin" bliss.

Thanks for Looking!!
Keep The Passion High!!

HH,
CAPTN SE
Dan

You sure have a great place for hunting. Over 200 silver pieces. That is great. I wold also like to know what you mean by one signal. Do you only get it going one was like moving the coil to the lefy and then nothing going right. I there has been times when I am out and I think I heard a signal and ehen I look at my screen it may show a penny or dime icon. But when I try to find it againb I can not so I move on. Is this what you are talking about....Matt

Thanks for the reply, Matt.

Check out my reply above to terpfan. I elaborate a little more on the one-way signals. They were choppy sounding while swinging back an forth over the target while facing the target on one swing plane. With the Minelab machines, the technique is to swing back and forth over the target, trying to get that fluty sound. It's a unique sound. It will also help to isolate your signal and get a better read on it. I'm constantly swinging back and forth over the target from various swing planes, while circling the target.

Captn,
Your postings always blows me away.
I just got the E-Trac and have been out 3 times and have found 3 silvers, which I have not posted yet.
You are sure to find more spots with your skills I know you will probably exceed this posting.
That is one sweet 1895 Barber.

Rob

Hey Rob. Thanks a bunch! Good luck to you with that E-Trac!! Great start for you already! The more you use it, the better you're going to become.

Re: 5 Dime Trifectas and a Semi-Grand Slam! 51 Silvers, Injuns, 100's of Wheats!!

Congrats. Thats a lot of silver. Talking about one way whispers. I Have had a tone one way and blanks out on the back swing. Maybe I've been missing something with the dfx. With a spot like that do you keep looking in the rear view mirror when you head out to that site ?

Re: 5 Dime Trifectas and a Semi-Grand Slam! 51 Silvers, Injuns, 100's of Wheats

Hi Dan! Wow. Your posts are just blowing me away. Your finds are spectacular.  I am both inspired and depressed by your finds. I know it takes hundreds and thousands of hours in the field to gain your level of skill (not to mention talent, too!)

If my year totals look like this post, you'll probably hear me yelling all the way in California. :D

I hope you'll pardon me while I go out and pound the turf some more.

Congrats on more exceptional finds. You deserve it!!!

HH!!

Re: 5 Dime Trifectas and a Semi-Grand Slam! 51 Silvers, Injuns, 100's of Wheats!!

Dan,

A word of caution, perhaps you should pace yourself a little. This is a marathon not a sprint. Leave a few to find tomorrow? :icon_scratch:

Awsome post as usual, That is another great spot you have found there. Keep swinging low and slow and I think you will be over 500 soon.

Just the wheats would be a banner day for me! :o

HH,

Dave

Bruce did say pound the "TURF" didn't he? Had me worried there for a minute? 8)

Wow!! That is simply amazing. Looks like you have another great spot for finding silver. You have found a lot of silver and a sweet barber there. Great job! You did say in a reply it's hard on your hands and upper body digging that many deep plugs. If I wasn't so far away, I could help you find some of that silver, save your back for many more years of detecting.

Nice haul on the silver.

Dan, Awesome finds, Thanks for a interesting post. The Explorer is doing a fine job for you.

I just bought a Explorer II and am waiting for the rain to stop so I can try my luck with it. I also use a F-75 which I have found some really good items with it.

My buddy and I found a spot here in Ohio like the one you have. Many, many months of research, we finally got permission to hunt the site and it has never disappointed us everytime
we go there.

Again, Congratulations on all your finds.

Cool lookin little token also..

Thanks, jazdo! I like the token too. I didn't say anything about it in my post. The front says "Emergency School Tax Token On Purchase of 25 Cents", "1935", "5 Mills".

Great finds, very impressive. I'm new here so I hope I didn't ask stupid questions but could you clarify a little more on a one way signal? EX. one way on a 180 degree axis(right swing with beep , left swing back with no beep) or beeps on both righ and left swings with none or one direction beep at 90 degrees. Have I totally confused you now? I have confused myself.

Thanks, Drdepth. Check out some of my replies to the others above about one-way signals. Good luck!

Utterly a superb haul, Dan. YOU ARE THE KING OF SILVER IN MY BOOK :icon_sunny:  I wouldn't know how to act if I did that good. That must make a person really feel good . You are off to a record setting year for sure

Thanks, Ron. Yeah, it's a great feeling. Very hard on the hands though. Lots of digging.

I'm not sure if I'm living in the right spot. Yeah I'm sure. I spent this evening hunting a place I swore I would never go back to and coaxed up two wheats for a couple of hours and they were in the same hole. Just hugh what you are doing there Congrats!

Thanks, mcmurphi! Congrats on going back to a previous site and making some finds. No place is ever hunted out. As your skill gets better, you will find more in the ground.

Incredible, and here I thought with silver park drying up I'd have a slim chance of catching up! Wow, wow, wow. Hard to be happy with my finds today now, even though I did get a fun one, a steel cent.

Congrats!

Thanks, Nick! Congrats on your steelie. Whenever I dig up a wheat that has a pile of iron attached to it, I know it was from a "steelie". Very cool!

My research sucks...
My motivation is low...
And you just pounded the stake through my heart (which is silver as well...)

Seriously though,
Great finds Colonel!!
You are the man!

Thanks, plumloko. Never give up!

Thanks, Ray. Keep you silver streak going!

That's just fantastic!! I would love to find a spot that good again. Good luck! HH!!

Thanks, HH! Keep finding that silver!!

Take care buddy

Thanks, Bryce! There are so many potential spots where I live, I was bound to find a "glory spot" in time. I'll continue searching after this spot begins to go dry. Take care, my friend!

Congrats. Thats a lot of silver. Talking about one way whispers. I Have had a tone one way and blanks out on the back swing. Maybe I've been missing something with the dfx. With a spot like that do you keep looking in the rear view mirror when you head out to that site ?

Thanks, RodgerDodger! It has a lot to do with your machine and discrimination level when you hear signals like that. Only through experience of digging those signals repeatedly, will you begin to understand better what is typically creating that signal on your machine.

Wow Dan! That is AWESOME!! You are one successful treasure hunter! SO EXCITING!!!! WOOHOOOOO!!!

Thanks, Neil! It has been very exciting each time I hunt there.

So what are you? the only guy in your county who owns a detector?
jimminy crickets man!! thats some crazy silver

Thanks, Prolab! I'm just one of many who own Explorers here. Competition for silver in our parks is very high amongst my hunt buddies. We do have many sites in our locale that have produced old coins. These coins were overlooked because they weren't giving the typical "dig me" tone. Most were broken sounding signals that wanted to null out from all the nearby iron and ground mineralization. After digging a few of those signals, and finding out that they were coins, I started to get them all.

Thanks, Bruce! You're right about how the more time you spend with your machine, the more you're going to find. Two years ago, I would have missed all of these coins I found in my past 7 hunts at this spot. I was a newbie then, and didn't understand how to target the fainter, deeper, iffy signals. I was only digging the perfect sounding ones back then. Keep plugging away. Good luck to you, my friend!

Thanks, wyattrr! It's a good feeling just to put all the silver I dug in my hand, and think that all of this could have still been in the ground if I hadn't given an old spot another try. ::)

Thanks, Dave! I was pacing myself...I only found one barber on any given hunt there. ;D ;D 500 is a long, long way off. If I don't find another spot like this, it won't be do-able, but I'm not going to even try to match what I did back in '07.

Thanks, Big E! I've been taking days off to allow my body/hands to recover. So far so good, but when I get older, I think I might end up with arthritis from all the digging I have done. Oh well. I'm not going to let that stop me right now. ;D
