Made it out this morning with Louis AKA MetalHeadz to my recent favorite cellar hole in the park woods. It was so humid at 6am you could see your breath, strange. We barrel rolled some of the high weeds down and Louis got on the board right away with a 2 piece button, 4 wheats and an ornate suspender clasp. I was only popping shotgun shell ends, slugs and casings for the first 2 hours, but the last hour turned out pretty good for me.

Best find was my first O Barber Dime. It was a bouncy signal from zilncoln to iron, I probably passed on this target 3 different days, but since I wasn’t finding much I dug it this morning, must have been on edge or a nail in the hole.

Also found my first skeleton key and saw medallion of the year.

The saw medallion is Henry Disston & Sons in Philadelphia around the 1870’s.

Here is the handful from this morning and a couple recent lunch hunts.

I think the tiny spoon handle is made out of tombac. Is that possible? Definitely not the typical silver plated brass.

Found my first Pittsburgh Transit token, a little toasty but I recognized it at the site when dirt popped out of the center exposing the triangle. Here is what a non dug example looks like.

Here are the 2 mystery items. One is a cone shaped brass piece and the other the size of a large pocket watch.

Any ideas?

Have a safe 4th and good luck out there!

Now we're metal detecting. Congrats on the great finds.:icon_thumright:

Congratualtions on the two firsts! :occasion14: You also found some nice relics! :icon_thumleft:

Wow! Some beautiful old relic saves. Nice dime. Congrats

It was cool seeing a O barber dime for the first time in person. I dont think that site was hit hard before you found it. Good research.

My guess for mystery brass piece. Door Bell?

Thx Louis. I think you are spot on with the id. I’ve found the outer brass bell a number of times but never the back.

Awesome finds and congrats on your first's... :icon_thumleft: "D"

Great job. Your token is my favorite find.

Keep swingin.

Thats a great batch of relics, and also a great looking Barber dime. Congrats on your first O mint mark.

Nice little hunt Thad, although I think it must have been quite miserable in this recent humidity. I have found that type of small spoon handle, in the same material, on quite a few late 18th/early 19th century sites. It vey well may be tombac material.

Very nice finds!!:icon_thumright:

Congrats on a very nice set of finds. The dime is especially great, but I really enjoy pulling skeleton keys out -- nice one you found! Cheers to it all! :occasion14:

Thx Steve! Yep, it’s been hot, lunch hunts are sweat saturated. Super early morning hunts in old forest not too bad as long as you have plenty of water. Thx for info on spoon. Might be the oldest piece from this site. It’s on the 1862 map, so there must be some old stuff in there. (Same place we last met up for a hunt)

jeeze o weeze what a collection awesome
