40' & 50's finds

I ran out of older places to hunt and decided to ask a friend who lives near by if I could hunt his yard. He lives in a 50's home with a very large back yard that joins other large back yards. I could picture in my mind football, baseball, soccer games over the years and maybe some 50's finds. After 5 or 6 trips there weren't a lot of good finds but there were some coins from the 40's-50's including 13 wheat pennies.

Re: 40' & 50's finds

Silver is alway's good Schrecky.......I suppose the "wheatie's" were all in the same time frame ? Kinda got that Mirage lookin' layout  Nice Job!!!!

Schrecky:
That 'dog' tag interests me.
There was a Merle L. Akam from Corry, Pa. who enlisted in the Army on 6/1/44.
He may still be around; and since you are from that same town, wouldn't that be a hoot to return his 'dog' tag.

Re: 40' & 50's finds

Mackaydon, thanks for the info. I will see if I can find him.

Re: 40' & 50's finds

Hey! I may not be the oldest stuff in the whole wide world but its still silver and that's all that counts. Nice going

Re: 40' & 50's finds

Hey Dan,
Looks good. :) I know it's more fun hunting/finding older stuff but it's still very satisfying to see that silver popping up. ;D

I got together with Don last week. He told me about the next DFXonly hunt - it sounds very good. :)

Nice finds Shrecky,

That fork is nice. Is it marked sterling. I know what you mean. I have had alot of post 1900 finds myself this season.

Schrecky:
You might start with Akam's Store 11505 Route, Corry, PA 16407
Phone 814-664-8993
Also, there was a Charles H. Akam, age 85, from Corry, still alive last year--perhaps his brother??

Re: 40' & 50's finds

Dang, Shrecky - Looks like a pretty good hunt to me!

I'd love to find a silver Washington & old dog tags are always cool to find.

Nice group of finds!

Re: 40' & 50's finds

It seems like you get silver and wheat pennies every hunt! That seems like a good hunt to me! :) Congratulations on all of the silver! :)

Re: 40' & 50's finds

I would say terrific finds! I would take finds like that all the time. I never had any luck with the silver quarters. I recently changed detectors and have now found three in 2 weeks. I love the 40's and 50's silver. AMC

Re: 40' & 50's finds

Nice job Schrecky, finds like those make 40's-50's homes seem very appealing. I've had some nice finds at some of those places. Quantity of silver is just as nice as quality of silver.

Re: 40' & 50's finds

Mackaydon: I did look into the owner of the dog and tag. The address on the tag is on the other side of town. I went there first and a different family lives there now and they told me the family before them was not named Akam. I looked in the local phone book and there were two Akam's that lived the area. I called one of them and he turned out to be a grandson of Merle. Merle died 12 years ago. The dog's tag was marked "disabled veteran" on the back. Merle served in the 83rd Infantry in WW II and was injured. I offered the grandson the tag and he was intrigued me finding of the tag.
