1) Large coin, One Penny - Ship? Not listed in my Charlton Canadian tokens book so assume it was minted in Britain, intended for Britain, but I can not find a match.

2) Silver, slightly larger than a quarter, dated 1696.

3) Large coin, dates 1761, guessing something like a 1 ORE. Country? ...............(ID'ed - 1761 Danish 1 ORE coin)

4) Large coin. Last pic can read "ANVER"......................................................... (ID'ed - 1814 10 Centime)

Maybe "ANVER" could be Anvers (the French translation of Antwerp) in Belgium.

Rob

Yep, getting close now. I just did a very random Google image search and got a hit, obviously on the right track.

Translation from the site:

During the Revolution, Belgium is occupied by France. The English who fear for their very close country, associated with united, besiege Antwerp in February 1814. A garrison ordered by Lazare Carnot (who was named governor of the place), defends the city isolated following the retirements from the Napoleonean armies. In May, after the first Restoration, Carnot agrees to return the city on order of the new French government (that of Louis XVIII) on May 1, 1814 and leaves Antwerp on May 3. During this seat and to cure the shortage of small cash, parts obsidionales of 5 and 10 centimes were struck out of bronze of gun and red copper (or mixes of both) following the 10 and March 16, 1814 decrees.

By the size and spacing I believe I have a 10. Will look through my Krause to confirm.

I, too, am sorry coin #2 is not an exact match to the coin I referenced. Look what it would be worth if it were and in excellent condition:

hahahaha Glad I didn't see that! (but I knew it wasn't the coin from seeing it before) I Googled a while back for about an hour and couldn't come up with it. If that price is legit that coin is obviously very rare in any grade.

I know we'll get the answer on mine, there's just too good a combination of coin interest, and stubborness to ID, on this forum to fail. :-X

the ore coin is danish -- yep its the "coinage" term --like cents are to a dollar .---so #3 is a 1761 danish 1 ORE coin-- so with the earlier id of 2 ,3,4 down - only #1 to go.

Great.

Still need both 1 and 2 though.

If you wish, you could wade through the various coins issued during Victor Emadeus II's reign and check your coin's weight against the weights of the various coin denominations and types--to determine your coin's type and tdenomination. For starter, you might look at these coins: baiocchi, quattrini, grosso, giulio, paoli, testone, doppia and scudo.

Mackaydon, do you happen to have a 1600s Krause? Under Savoy, Italy, I do see the listing for the one you had linked to and a few other dates for the same coin, but other than that there is next to nothing for Victor Emadeus II. This is where my confusion comes in, Im starting to think it's probably under something other than Italy but that period is his reign as Duke of Savoy. He does have connections to Austria, Spain, and France but i haven't found it there either. Quite honestly how these monarchs interacted minting coins is way over my head and don't think I'll ever make sense of it. Someone has to know what this is.

Patch:
Not only was he the Duke of Savoy, he also held the titles of marquis of Saluzzo, marquis of Monferrato, prince of Piedmont, count of Aosta, Moriana and Nizza. If that were not enough, he was also the first king of Sicily (1713-1718) and the king of Sardinia. During one or more of these periods (except when he was king), he may have authorized the minting of your coin. So there is a lot to research still to do, if you have the time and the desire.

I did come across some of those but didn't really look into it, at least the ones that post dated the coin. The answer is obviously in there somewhere but to be honest I'm not going to spend the time to find it. I may contact the the seller of the rare one, probably a no brainer for him to say what it is.

Well, the good news is that you have the ruler and the complete inscription so that's a start.

This narrows it down in terms of dates. Only two match yours--and one is a 5 soldi coin, whose diameter is 28mm (slightly larger than a U.S. quarter). So that's what denomination I'm banking on.

I would not have bumped that post back mostly for the reason the silver was just passing through, and others I had an idea on, and weren't that interesting. That said, knowledge never hurts, and Winter is here for most of us. I might actually take a look and do some post bumping myself.

I should post a forum stimulus plan, get everyone to go back and bump some favorite posts, both theirs and ones they've read. Or go way back and just find the neatest stuff. Can you say cabin fever.
