We've been getting hit with rain and thunderstorms all week and today was no different, but my wife is away on a trip in Indiana with my daughter to visit family so what am I supposed to do? Sit around the house? NOPE! I went detecting despite the crappy weather forecast. I started in a field where I was previously finding a few CW items, bullets and such. I hit on a nice signal, thought for sure it was to be a bullet, but it was this decorative piece...possibly pewter or pot metal. Not sure, but it's pretty neat nonetheless. Broken, though. I wandered a little bit more in the field and of course like the other times a cow comes over to say hi. Now, am I weird for talking to the cow? I dug a hole and showed the cow what I had found "HEY COW! It's a 3 ring bullet!" It sniffed my detector then jumped away when it moved. lol ANYWAY...it started to rain a little harder so I sat in the truck for a few minutes and took a drink break. It stopped so I got out and headed over into another field. A few steps in I dig a beauty of a 3 ringer...came out just as gray in color as the day it was dropped...you don't get many coming out of the dirt that aren't oxidized. Few feet away I dug another...same condition.

My real goal was to work my way to the top of this hill, figured this was a good spot for anyone to hang out...whether it had been during the civil war or just a civilian. Working my way up the hill I got another 3 ringer then right as I got to the crest of the hill I got a solid 78-80 and thought for sure another bullet, but to my surprise it was a coin(only the second one I've found since my first trip) and it was a beautiful 1803 Draped bust. Boy was I happy to be holding that 210 year old coin! Afterwards I worked the small area and surprisingly not much else was found, just a long rectangular iron buckle and a nice silver gilted flat button with a crown at the top and "WARS" as the backmark? That's a first for me. I got a few more pick me ups along the way before I had enough of the weather. Over all a great day and can't wait to go back. HH

Thanks. Nope, just fired and and a little smashed which makes it look a little wider. The draped bust is in great condition, but I'm waiting on the chain cent or Fugio cent! lol

Awesome relics and great large cent.

Thank you. You need a story! There's always a story! lol

You did awesome! What great finds. Loving the decorative ( pewter ?) piece. Uhhgg why must they ways be broken! And no your not weird for talking to a cow . What is Weird is I carry on full conversations with whatever animal is around, people would think I was insane if they heard me.

Haha...thanks Jimmi. I also yelled at a groundhog... lol

Nice Copper and interesting button.
'Top of the Hill' is always somewhere to check, regardless of size.
I've found many iron patches on small hilltops, activity tended to occur on the high ground.
HH
