This was the last hunt for 2017. I decided to check again the area where I found my first gold coin on 2016.
I got there when it was still dark.

Up there

The first was this little coin with a N on it!

Then came the first silver.

After almost one hour without digging nothing came the second.

The third, with pegasus came out just before leaving.
Total. 55 coins, big arrow head and nice small one.
A broken ring, probably medieval, a set of iron loom tools etc. That was it.
Wish you a happy detecting new year and all the best.

Amazing "OLD" coins...... I think about what was going on, on the earth when they were made..... WOW

Yeahhhh, who knows but for one thing im sure. They were not metaldetecting at that time :tongue3:

Your doing fantastic Vince. :headbang: I bet you throw 19th and 20th century coins in to the trash bin. :tongue3: Looks like you are becoming one with the XP Deus.

That's true buddy. When for searching at any park because my friend is calling me it seems to me like om loosing my time and I don't like to gi too far from home. For this oldies I drive for one hour and hike for another one and thats always fine :)

I assume this was with the XP? Looks like it as they love tiny coins.

A great finish to the year & it gives you an idea of whats left behind. Try gridding the whole site again from a different angle & pick up a few more bits.

That's absolutely right. Its the same area that I have checked for several times with At Pro. I found the first silver on 18 KHz. I thought it would be better for the silver coins. Later I ran on 8 kHz and I found the small one. For the small bronze coins looks like 18 or 8 doesn't make a difference. In the afternoon I tried 4 kHz hopping on some gold coin. It was on 4 kHz that I found all the byzantine coins. They were just 10cm down on the same place I have checked with at pro. I'm sure that there's more there but it's a difficult terrain. The strange thing is that on 8 KHz I could find only 3rd 2nd BC bronze small coins and silver while on 4 KHz I found also the Byzantine. They are bronze too , bigger and heavier.

Very good post. Great pix. Cool finds. thanx for sharing !

Your right, but in theory the lower the KHz the bigger & deeper the finds are. I've tried 8 & 4 but I find the best results all round is on 12.

I have to try it on 12. On 4 I have issues with the pottery. On Hot they give a high tone and a straight line on the screen. I can distinguish them from coins but it is very annoying. The area is full of pottery.

Wow nice finds:icon_thumright: GZ!:occasion14:

Thanks DDF. I can't hunt very often but until I can I always make plans where to go and where and how to search. I hope I can share more stuff soon. :icon_thumright:

The "I (sigma) THN" coin appears to be the "she-wolf suckling twins" image.
Maybe Alexander the Great on the obverse, wearing a lion's skin helmet.
Don...

Hey Mackaydon
I found this one which is closer to my coin

Vince,
Here's pic of the cow-calf with the cow facing in the same direction as your coin (but with a different reverse). I agree its a cow-calf versus shewolf-twins coin.
Drachms

The drachms were produced in a mean weight around 3.3 g; most probably between 210 and 48 B.C.; during the Roman protectorate status of the cities. After a one-hundred-year local circulation they spread over the North-East Balkan territories, still outside Roman occupation, in the first half of the first century B.C. The production was increased and the massive exportation made this coinage there the most common among all other Greek coinages.
