3 Hours in Clad Quarter Heaven

Well......The park's pickins have gotten slim, so I embarked this morning on a hunt with one specific goal in mind......to find money. I went to the local high school for 3 hours and dug 10.41 in just short of 3 hours. Yep, a whole roll of clad quarters to buy silver half dollars with ;D

I get back home and find that my eBay seller who was selling walkers below melt value got relieved of the last 6 walkers while I was out.....bummer. :o

Not to complain though....I ended up getting 14 walking liberty halves from this guy in the last 3 weeks. I wound up settling for 2 Franklin half dollars instead, and they cost me a buck more (for the pair) than the walkers ....but still a shade under melt value ;D ;D

My chest ain't runnin' over yet, but I've put 47 silver coins in it in the last 3 weeks....no small achievement by my standards. I added 1 silver dollar, 18 half dollars, 9 quarters, and 19 dimes.

Yep......I love clad, and I ain't too proud to admit it either. ::)

Well...Let's see......the high school is roughly 4 thousand feet from my house (a little less than a mile) and my PT Cruiser gets 30 mpg.....so gas mileage doesn't really enter the equation. All of my hunting these last 3 weeks has been within a mile of my house.

It makes perfect sense (to me) to buy the halves and dollars...since what I typically find is the dimes and quarters, though I did unearth 5 silver halves last fall (one at a time)

It'd take a long long time to dig up 18 silver half dollars. I don't think I've dug that many since I started doing this in 1978....I probably have dug around 10.

It's all about the silver coins for me. I'm 48 and have had an interest in coins since I was 10 years old when we found some in an old house. I was immediately intrigued by the different designs.
