I don't usually post here but have been wanting to.

These are not all from today... each picture represents one day for about five hours. The pics show only what I kept and the rest was iron fort & farm trash that filled a five gallon bucket. All came from private property near an Indian War era Montana Infantry Fort.

Thanks for looking.

We have a few old trading forts near where I live (Montana) I was wondering if they would produce anything good. I wondering what metal the buttons are made out of?

Research those areas! But remember... the trading forts were mostly fur companies. Those dudes had to account for every penny and the cash was limited... it was beads and trinkets for beaver and buffalo! But I bet the relics are there... maybe not coins - but definitely relics.

And BTW snappy... welcome to treasurenet!

Great finds!!! :o :o
I was stationed in Glasgow, Montana in the early 60's, only wish I'd taken up this hobbie sooner. The west is enchanting, full of history.
Keep up the posts, we live vicarously thru these adventures.

Second picture.......

Next to the last row going across.......

Third item over.....

;D

In between the latch and the shell. ;)

Re: 3 Different Days at My Favorite Spot

Nana... I think you mean this thing here... I believe it to be a turn knob for either a lamp or a light switch, a turning drawer pull of sorts, or possibly an antique doorbell crank switch... I dunno. It has traces of paint on it leading to me to think "household"... an Infantry Officers wife musta loved that technology here during those primitive days!

If anyone actually knows what it is... do tell!

Re: 3 Different Days at My Favorite Spot

That's it! Thanks! Looks like a good candidate for the 'What's it' forum! ;D

Neat find! Nana :)

Re: 3 Different Days at My Favorite Spot

Nice finds Jim.
Are you on the East side? I am in the Kalispell area. There arent any old fort sites here that I know about but there Is lots of old homesteads (late 1800) and town sites. I have been hitting the library and all the local history books and I am surprised of the colorful past we have locally and around the state.
Now if the snow would hurry and disappear i could get with the program!
Hope to talk with you more.

Jerry... I'm in Great Falls, but move around to detect. This is a big state and traveling is almost half the fun. I hear ya on the snow... drove two hours one way today to chip rock solid ground! Only could detect, speculate on a return trip in spring, and go home. :-\ At least I eyeballed a few keepers. Enjoy the research... I like that part of our hobby too!

Re: 3 Different Days at My Favorite Spot

Nice find's Jim ;D

Re: 3 Different Days at My Favorite Spot

Again, thanks. I was kinda thinking nobody would give two hoots about my junk since there are no coins! LMAO ;D (Really... I do know better :P)

Here is another day's worth of pickings... about a four hour day at this particular place. The diamond shaped thing above the harmonica reed is carved lead. Sometimes I find these 45-70 rounds laying right on top after 130ish years! :o

Re: 3 Different Days at My Favorite Spot

Oh,Montana,I'm envious! I find only a small fraction of that many relics in Idaho. Visited Great Falls several years ago.....The Charles Russell museum was a real treat!

Wow, I'm speechless! I was going to pick a favorite but I can't, it's all great. And the further down the page I went there was more!

I would guess the knob to be a doorbell crank also.
