All Treasure Hunting
As some of you might recall the first time I went metal detecting in my backyard I didn't find anything and the cheapy Kellyco shovel broke. So, the second time around I did something differant. I recall seeing an article on here about the Garrett Ace 250 and whether or not it could metal detect on sand at the beach, because the sand caused interference, and someone replied that you have to change your descrimination mode like half way I think they said. Well, in the back yard there is dirt, sand and a little clay in the ground, so I turned the desrimination mode down and sure enough I found 7 coins! A 1984 quarter, 1991 quarter,1988 dime, 1981P nickel, 1992D dime, 1975 dime,1980 penny. So, I didn't find anything really old, but had fun finding them and only had to dig 2-4 inches down, also in coin mode found a piece of metal siding from a house, and found a triangle shape piece of metal and found a light bulb metal piece and 2 beer cans crushed in the ground. I have more of the yard to metal detect on and going to try all modes on the yard as well. I will have 15 days vacation coming up for my birthday, so I am going to some free wine seminars at Epcot Food And Wine Festival and I plan on doing some metal detecting. I still need to e-mail Kissimmee and Orlando parks and recreation to find out which parks you can metal detect on. I could go by if no signs posted and not fenced in then it's fine to metal detect, but I'd rather ask before my vacation if anyone knows which parks you can metal detect on and the parks you can't metal detect on in Orlando and Kissimmee area please let me know. If there's other areas you can metal detect on please let me know. I've been so busy with work I've had no time to metal detect. (frown)

Welcome and congrats on your finds. I recently took an Ace 250 to the beach in New Jersey and found that I could run it at the factory settings right up to the water. The only thing that messed it up was trying to detect into the surf. In the dry sand and wet sand as well it worked just fine without having to lower the sensitivity. I'm learning this detector and find that it's really neat. The weight, ease of use and ability to find things is amazing. I also have a Garrett AT3 Beach Hunter, White's 6000DI Pro, and a DFX. All are good detectors but for the money the Garrett is awesome. Good luck with your hunting and finding tourist gold in Florida. 2dgs

Good job mecke28! Keep going and finds will keep coming.
Learning the machine is half the battle. 25% is pull tabs and 25% is battlecaps!!!LOL

I wanted to let you know I just e-mailed Brenda March City Of Orlando and also parks at Kissimmee about which parks permit metal detecting in Orange County and Osceola County. If and when I receive any e-mails from them I will let you know what they told me.

Keep playing with your machine and find out what works best for you. You're definately getting better. Way to go!

Get your self one of these Leonard Soil Knife AM and the Sheath.
It has a lifetime warranty. very thick steel and not cheapy like the one that came with the MD.

Oh, by the way Nice finds. I bet there is more in your yard.
Happy Hunting!!! ;D

I got an e-mail from Brenda March City Of Orlando in her e-mail she said "You can metal detect at any of our city parks. The City does not allow digging in our parks.

I'm going to ask a dumb question, because I'm new to all this. Can you use a screwdriver to get things out of the ground or what tool can you use? Because what if all counties say that then how do you all do it in parks? Also, the way she said it at any of our CITY parks, so the way she is talking she isn't talking about the small parks or the counties parks? It gets confusing to me and I want to do the right thing, because I don't want to give metal detecting and the people who love this hobby a bad name.
