Hi all. Went back to the early 1800's cellar hole where I found the 1828 LC and a flat button a couple of weeks ago and this time I walked away with an 1805 Draped Bust LC in decent condition. This one was about 30' from the cellar hole. It was one of those "iffy" signals that I always dig and read a depth of 4". I first dug out a couple of small square nails and then a small piece of iron. I checked the hole again and my pin pointer was still sounding off. I scooped out a handful of loose dirt and checked it with my pin pointer which indicated it was in my hand. It was a great feeling to uncover that nice round object.

Thanks for looking. IMG_1140.JPGIMG_1139.JPG

That coin is in great shape! Wish our soil was that gentle on coppers. Congrats !

How about a Sheldon 268, Rarity 3

Large Cents

S-267 & S-268 share same Obverse, but the S-268, has an entirely different reverse with quite a few differences from the S-267 and your coin matches that reverse.

Don thanks to you and Hogge for the research on the variety of the coin. What is the range for # of known examples for rarity 3?

Thanks to you all for the kind responses. I really appreciate all of the knowledge and support you get from this site!

According to Breen...201-500 known.

Great looking copper, it's so nice to see the soils are being kind to some coinage. Forest loam, and sandy loam the drains quickly in the fields seem to be kind to the old coppers.
